I'm currently building up a Grey knight army, I'm needing to ally them with a long range army, i was thinking of having a small Imperial guard (astra militarum) detachment, i'm tempted to go with another space marine army, but i really can't decide, if anyone has any thoughts on which would be a better long range ally would help me greatly

GK with SM allies can be very nasty. SM can fill in the firepower gap the GK lack nicely.

I normally add a Knight to my GK at 1850 and up. Knights fit my play style, and add heavier range weapons with excellent melee.

I've been thinking about an "Inquistorial Delta Force" army lately: Grey Knights, Deathwatch, and SoB led by an Inquisitor. Something like that might be fluffy for sure. Need to find an old SoB/Inquisition codex to see if it's at all viable, though.

I use to run such a list back in 3rd, 4th, and 5th, using the old Daemonhunter, Witch Hunter, and Space Marine codexes. Back then, you could fill a single SM FoC with SM, GK, and SoB units due to a special "allies" rule in both the Daemonhunters and Witch Hunters codexes. You can do the same army list today via battle brother Assassin, Inquisition, Sororitas, Astartes, and Grey Knight detachments. You won't make friends, but it is fluffy!

The real question is where I can find unpainted SoB and Inquisition models for less than the black market value of human organs.

GK mesh well with space marines. Tigirus and a LSS w 5 scouts gets you in for an allied detachment.

Throw your GKL or draigo in with Tiggy and some grav cannon centurians and just melt stuff. If you get the right combination of spells you will just be picking up enemy squads at will whilst being unkillable. Tiggy goes for ignore cover and invisibility. GKL looks for gates and cleansing flame.

Use the FA slot for a drop pod for your purifiers (combat squad 10 man genreate 4 warp charges and gets 2 perfectly placed cleansing flames off.) BEAST.

Maybe ally with imperial knights and get a knight crusader. 2 big guns and will keep fire off your NDK.
