I... do think this might not end too well, but I will need to clarify what I want to say.
I know that 7E Tau is very strong, top tier faction and can be very annoying to play with.
However, Commander Farsight doesn't seem to bring any qualities current tau need, such as MSSS, PEN, CNC.
He also dies relatively easily due to not having the access to Iridium armor, which is quite frustrating at time.
Not suggesting any kind of buffs to farsight, but I just want to know whether choosing Farsight over normal
tau commander with Signature systems would have any merits

He does well in a Crisis Suit Bomb for no scatter deep strike but that's about it. Possibly hit and run with i5

So it would be better to get a normal commander with signature system?

Personally I run Shadowsun with a standard crisis team. I give the Shas'vre PTC, MSS, CCN, and the rest fusion blasters. I also throw in a Marker Drone so the can combine fire with other units if their out of range of anything themselves.

You could do exactly the same thing with Farsight. No scatter and tank or monster hunter to take on anything you need.

The biggest problem I have is getting Farsight or Shadowsun into a Hunter Contingent.

try running shadowsun with kroot.

the big reason to take farsight is his warlord trait. It used to be that he unlocked a 10 man bodyguard unit, but we get that standard now. If you can select a warlord trait without rolling for it, then there is no objective reason to take him- other than the fact that he is a CC character in a shooting army.

Farsight, in reserve, in a group of crisis suits are a perfect death star for turn 2. When something absolutely must die he can drop in, hit it, and hopefully thrust away to live another round. Wanna charge something so ti will quit shooting at you, next turn, charge in with body guards attached, and bog it down, hell you might even kill it. Either way he is more of a Beta Strike than a powerful long term addition. Points wise, you will sink alot, so only useful at above 1500 points IMO. I have used him with great success to take out WKs and Tyranid nasties that would otherwise have run through my heavy hitters before.

I've been liking Farsight in a Command Group as part of a Dawn Blade Cadre with a Ret Cadre core. Set up a coup Bodyguards with Stims and Shield Drones for LoS's. Add in the Ret Commander with Fusion Blades for a melee bomb.

No one expect Tau to melee.

I guess his no scatter when deep striking is quite good, but deep striking isn't that reliable unless you use retaliation cadre, which gives turn 2 automatic deep strike :0
I love his fluffness with CC character in the shooting army, but just don't seem to be able to find a good place for him to suit in
