Been Around the Block

Hi all,
A very simple question:
How many of you still play 8th Edition? Or have you moved on to 9th/KoW?
Reason I ask is that we're considering filming some 8th Edition games in the coming weeks to gauge interest.
Thanks,

Sadly this is an Age of Sigmar forum. I believe if you want Fantasy 8th edition you need to go to the Other Games:GW specialists or something like that forum.

I mostly play 9th Age now, but 8th still gets some attention in my group.

TBH dude, I never liked 8th edition for my own reasons (don't need to start that kind of theard )... 6th and 7th were was the peak for me and I think 9th Age has really ironed out many of my bug-bears.
At the moment, it I'm not playing KoW (preferably) I'm playing 9th.
Both cool-ass systems in their own right

If you had actually read the sub-forum description on the index page, you would know that the forums are for both AOS and legacy WHFB. You don't have to use the specialist forum.

I never liked 8th to begin with. I think if you're wanting to play Oldhammer, 6th or 7th is probably the way to go. I'm not sure what 9th is like. If it's like 8th I probably won't like it. The main things I didn't like in 8th was the emphasis on larger units and the random charge distance. I also wasn't a big fan of the 8th magic.

I still play 8th edition on occasion with my Dwarves (and now Wood Elves), but I'm also getting into AOS with some of my friends down at the FLGS

If I had people to play 8th with I'd give it a whirl now and then but I had moved on to KoW before End Times came around.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

This. I am rebasing and repainting my entire HE army anyway, because that was planned before AoS hit. So it's ready for 8th, 9th or KoW.

We just did a throwback weekend with 4th, a 6th/7th mashup and 8th edition rules (3 games, one for each edition, armies had to be as similar as possible across all three periods).
It was real fun even though for the most part everyone seemed to be fumbling back at books for specific rules.
The return to 9th and non-ambiguous rules and interactions is a breath of fresh air though.

That sounds pretty fun, actually!

Unless that has changed in the last few weeks, a Mod did come in here in the AoS section and said go to the appropriate forum to talk about Fantasy. Only reason why I brought it up, I don't want to see anyone get in trouble.

I still play 8th Edition when I need to represent mass regimental block warfare between large armies. For the representation of "skirmishes" I have been playing with AoS. They are all part of a homebrew campaign/world a group of us are participating in.

I quit 8th before End of Times dropped and I'm just getting back into it. Have been intrigued by KoW and 9th Age, but will probably be sticking with 8th.
9th Age seems to be some kind of 7th edition/8th edition hybrid aimed at the real hardcore tournament people. They used to be the core of WFB anyway. Not my cup of tea, but I'm keeping my eye on it because it might end up being a perfected version of 8th.

Well, hopefully that goes out to prove that the goal of the 9th is not just to provide a tournament-friendly balanced ruleset.
Terracotta warriors are a branch of Undying Dynasties (read: Tomb Kings in 9th) and they get their first official (in the sense that they've been developed for 9th age).

It's a thematic list where all units are constructs (even skeletons, chariots, etc.) real fun to play. Not the most competitive, but with a very unique feel.

When I want to play a big massive game with all my undead or chaos vs other mega-armies, I usually fall back to 8th, with the First EoT book.
