Hi guys few questions leading on from my previous post, ok so I'm looking at possibly starting a Traitor Guard allied detachment for my CSM army and I also want to buy some bigger units (not Titan big though! maybe some tanks, contemptor dread etc) from FW to use in my CSM army. Would this book cover both bases:
https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-US/Imperial-Armour-Volume-Thirteen-War-Machines-of-the-Lost-and-the-Damned
I'm scratching my head a bit wondering if this will have the stat's for the models I want to buy, from the description it seems like it will but yeah the books aren't cheap so don't wanna take a chance without knowing for certain!

Also can anyone recommend what's good in the book, is it worth buying? Need something to give my army a competitive edge (currently having a losing streak). I'm guessing there is troop/HQ choices in there so I can make up my allied detachment? What are the offerings troop wise, anything neat or quirky, decent statlines vs. points?
What do people rate vehicle wise from this book? Is there anything broken that could throw off an opponent or be tricky to deal with?

Sorry I know there's a lot of questions but finally if I take an allied detachment am I right in thinking the troops wouldn't be objective secured? If not that really sucks.

Hopefully someone can shed some light anyway, thanks in advance, Ash

If you're looking for FW CSM units and traitor guard (renegades and heretics) that's the book to buy. If you're interested in just traitor guard, you'll probably get more mileage out of the Siege of Vraks book; the large one which covers the entire war. It has a couple of unit and wargear changes (spawn can be taken without your demagogues squad needing a mark of tzeentch, only marks / boons you can take are nurgle and khorne) changes as well as two fantastic alternate FOC which really let you play to the Renegade's Strengths.

From my understanding of the Lost and the Damned book, the big sell for CSM is a couple of the flyers and some of the dreadnaught options. For both books though the Renegades and Heretics are really what most people seem to be after. They're a super fun and very unique army which is highly customizable both at a list level and a modelling level, they're also leaps and bounds ahead of CSM when it comes to actually playing the game too.

If you want tzeentch or slannesh, you need 13 and not varks.
Varks only has nurgle and khorne (and some different devotions, who can radically change your playstyle)

As for what works.
Dirt cheap flamer sentinels are amazing (just 20 per body. It's infantry prices)
Artillery teams also dirt cheap and care little for lower BS.
Enforcer with drugs leading a gorde of mutants can throw ungodly amounts of attacks.
Dirt cheap troop spawn via tzeentch demagogue is great.

Patten here, when it's dirt cheap it's usually good. The sheer amount of random junk you can throw around when sticking to discount units that care not for upgrades is unholy and cannon be dealt with by anything, even top table cheese lists.
The main reason lost and damned don't take high scores in turnies, the army is too damn big for the time limit.
I mean, I once made a 1000 list for fun that managed to push over a dozen earthshakers and over a hundred infantry (mostly zombies) Its just ridiculous. (that one was varks though.)

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

As BoomWolf stated, IA13, has R&H rules which offer covenants for all 4 powers as well as different demagogue devotions. The devotions affect the general play style of the army, so you may want to check which book contains the rules you want (Heretek Magus, Mutant Overlord and Bloody-Handed Reaver are IA13 only and Ordnance Tyrant and Shock Legion Taskmaster are Vraks). Vraks has a lot of additional stuff for IoM but IA13 contains a plethora of vehicle options for CSM and some CD units.
