Hey people just got back into age of sigmar and currently deciding between a high elf or wood elf force but dont want to spend alot of money on a army it the high elf and wood elf factions are gunna be discontinued. What do you people think is gunna happen with elves? Do you think the will stay seperate as high elf and wood elf? Any help would be appreciated!!

Difficult to say. At the moment the existing Elf factions have carried through with new names - Wanderers, Exiles and Highborns - but as we've seen with Death & Chaos, when/if a GA book comes out these could be updated. Not that it matters given take-what-you-want, but you might see Witch Elves or Wardancers become a 'mini' faction, for example.
However, the warning sign for me - especially given TK's being given the boot - is as yet beyond a few vague mentions in the fluff we've seen no artwork for any Aelf stuff, indicating that Plans Are Afoot.
We're starting to see more frequent references to the 'Shadowkin' which sounds distinctly dark elf-y to me, but beyond that we just don't know.
If you're worried about stuff becoming obsolete, then either buy nothing or just make sure you have hard copies of the relevant warscrolls.
I don't believe that any of the elf ranges were selling poorly enough to get TK'd - although as we've seen with Chaos a few units/models might get retired - but I'd expect a fair bit of reboxing with some new AoS-y accompaniments.
But that's all IMO.
All we know for sure is that Aelfs exist, they are to be found everywhere but it sounds like the realms of light, life and shadow are their main stomping grounds, (which to me sounds like they won't be homogenised too much).

I don't love the odds of Dark Elves and Wood Elves continuing to exist in a way that actually resembles what they currently are.

It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

My guess for Dark Elves is a rework of the army around the Which Cults.
High elves will still exists but I have no idea under what form. The current way they work is very tied with Ulthuan. But we know Teclis and Tyrion still exist as gods now.
I think Wood Elves will get discontinued, as the Sylvaneth will take the role of main forest faction.
------
Now my wild dream is the return of Slaneesh and a double Aelf faction: Light Aelfs and Slaneeshi Aelf. They would both get entirely new models but from the same new mini ranges, with the alternate kit assembly we've seen lately.

I think Aelfs who live in woods will still be a thing.
Reading through the realmgate wars book there's the definite feel that it's not just Sylvaneth who live in the more sacred areas of Ghyran, but they're just missing right now.
My guess is that they'll come back in time for Alarielle MK3.
Malerion will need to resurface before any action on Slaanesh can happen (as Malerion knows where he is).
With High Elves, I don't know.
My gut feeling is that the more stylistic elements of the Elven factions will drive them, so I'm thinking shifts toward Wardancers, Witch Elves and Magical archers type things, with the more generic stuff going LCTB.
Judging by the stuff so far that had antecedents - Khorne Bloodbound and Fyreslayers - they took the basic thematic idea and put it through the superlative-a-tron turned up to 11.

Definitely a big question mark. I think the Dark Elves line is going to survive fully intact though, as there's a photo of them from a few months back all rebased.
Seeing what happened to Tomb Kings and knowing Wood Elves had a similar history of being one of the last races to support/least popular, I might not be surprised if they drop. But both them and High Elves have ties with the gods in the new realms, as has been said.

The thing is while Alarielle was tied to the Wood Elves before, she seems completely independent of it now. The world was destroyed and she became a Godess of life and nature. Her faction is more Sylvaneth than Elf, and she's even getting turned into a war-like sylvaneth now.

With as awful as the fluff is for age of suckmar, I would expect none of the elven factions to resemble what they do now, expect something more akin to what they did with the fyreslayers. basically most of the stuff that made sense in the old world wont make sense in the new setting.

Entirely possible, but from my experience people liked wood elves because of waywatchers, Wardancers and the idea of the wildhunt (treemen aside).
Fervently hoping GW don't double tap them. Yeah. I'm expecting more witch elf-y/assassiny type stuff for the 'dark' Elves, more of the magic warrior schtick from High Elves (a la Phoenix Guard & The female archers), and the wood elves to go full-on Slaine/Legolas.

My bet is the majority of all the current elves will be discontinued. especially any units that had to do with places in the old world (dark elf executioners for example)
My hope is that they get re-imagined/re-made into a more "AoS friendly" unit.
My hope for TKs is that they will come back as something recognizable but with all new models. GW didn't GW say they would never Squat any faction ever again?

I don't think it will be anywhere near as bad as you guys are making out. Look at the Lizardmen, the beastmen, the... dragon ogres... Look at the dwarfs after the Fyreslayers?
Only the Tomb Kings have been dropped so far - and they were reported bad sellers. All elf factions were big sellers from my understanding, I used to see loads of different elf armies in my GW too.
I think we'll get some more sub factions like the 'Shadowkin'. I also think metal and finecast will be dropped as well as some of the really old plastic kits (High Elf core for example). But I would think the majority of the rest will stay.
Watch me eat my hat later haha

One of the reasons I'm worried about wood elves - all the stuff I really like of theirs is finecast...

Hah.
I would be more worried about the huge chunk of Wood Elves that is STILL METAL!
There's actually less resin than there is metal and/or plastic in the Wood Elf range.

well they took the best part of the wood elves and made them their own faction, not sure how much will survive, none of the high elf realms remain so having regional regiments wouldnt make any sense. So looking to see my high elves equally decimated.
