Hi everyone,
So I am looking to start grey knights, and would like a fun and reasonably good (but not ultra competitive) 1000 grey knight list to stick to, here is the list so far
HQ
Grand master - halberd, cuirass of sacrifice, psycannon - 232
Troops
5x terminators - 4x halberds, 1x hammer, 1x psycannon - 203
Elites
5x purifiers - 2x halberds, 1x hammer, 2x incinerators - 149
5x purifiers - 2x halberds, 1x hammer, 2x incinerators - 149
Heavy Support
Dreadknight - personal teleporter, nemesis greatsword, heavy psycannon - 205
Transport - 2x razorbacks - 110
I would love feedback on the list so far and whether I need to change any upgrades and what upgrades to give the dreadnaught - and what to add to get to 1000 points

So that leaves you with 109 points, which unfortunately doesn't give you much room for another unit.
To start, I'd recommend adding a Psycannon to the Terminators. They're the perfect platform for the weapon since they can move/shoot and assault with it at full range.
Dreadnaughts in general are poorly costed, but if you're going to run one then I'd say leave it with an assault cannon and fist. Get up close and personal as quickly as it's little stubby legs will take it.
To fill in the points, you could add more purifiers and/or give them incinerators.
When you feel comfortable with the psychic phase, I suggest you using the Grand Master as a Librarian for a couple games. Make him a mastery 3 Librarian and play around with the psychic powers. They can be a lot of fun and it'll save you points. Automatically Appended Next Post: From here you can try to make the Dreadnaught work better by taking a Stormraven with him as a transport for the Dreadnaught. Or you could drop the Dreadnaught altogether and get a Dreadknight with the teleport upgrade and heavy psycannon.

Psycannons, have some psycannons on your dudes for Emperor's sake.
Dump the dreadnought to get points for them, have your Grandmaster have one too.
I also don't like Purifiers unless you are running allies for drop pods, they have no delivery system to get across the table. No, Rhinos are not a delivery system. They're free points for your opponent to kill.
Really the only viable way to run GKs is as many terminators as possible, backed up by 1-2 dreadknights and librarians/grandmasters.

Ok cool, thanks for the feedback - I didnt realise terminators could still assault when shooting the psycannon
I worded it poorly - but I don't actually have any GK units yet, so I'm ok to swap out the grand master and dreadnaught for other things so I know what to buy

Ah, ok then. Well if you haven't bought a dreadnaught yet then don't. I have one because it looks cool, but on the battlefield it might as well be a handicap.
Dreadknights are the bread and butter of Grey Knights. If you're not trying to be ultra-competitive, then only take 1 at 1000 points. If you want to be competitive, take as many as you can. If you're playing against a casual list with no grav weapons or AP 1/2 spam, then a single Dreadknight will be a bear for your opponent to deal with.
Librarians are the generally accepted 'best' HQ choice for the Grey Knights. They're much cheaper than most of the choices and their 3 powers (4 if you take the artifact that gives an extra roll) provide a lot of utility. Grand Masters are occasionally used because they're allowed to take a Psycannon but this isn't used competitively, just for fun.
Terminators with 1 Psycannon and 1 Hammer are the general go-to Troops choice. The other option is just bad. Halberds are fine for flavor, they're cheap at least.
I personally enjoy Purifiers a lot. I do run them in Rhinos which allows them to use Cleansing Flame from the hatch while the Rhino is driving around. They can also shoot 2 weapons from the hatch. Competitively, it's better to ally another Imperial chapter to give them Drop Pods. But again, if you're not looking for super-competitive, then Rhinos will do just fine.

Cool, what kind of weapons do you think work well on a dread knight - is the sword or hammer a good idea?

thanks for the advice, I would really like to have some purifiers in there somewhere though.

Sword, teleporter, and heavy psycannon is the usual load out for a dreadknight. Heavy incinerator if you have points maybe.
I love purifiers too, but they need drop pods to be viable. Otherwise they just die getting across the table.

This really depends on your local meta. If your meta is casual (as in, people are playing whatever army using whatever models they happen to own.) then Purifiers in Rhinos will do fine. Even in a somewhat competitive environment they can do OK the first couple games... but once your opponent understands the threat Cleansing Flame poses, they will destroy the Rhinos as quickly as possible. Play some games and see how Rhinos do for you, and if you're finding that you're always getting your butt kicked, then try allying in Drop Pods.

As Grey Templar said. Sword, Teleporter and Heavy Psycannon followed by optional Heavy Incinerator. If you get a second Dreadknight then a Hammer instead of the sword will do fine. The hammer will help against GMCs.

Thanks guys, Ill be sure to add it to the list instead of the dreadnaught, and to get some psycannons in there

The Hammer doesn't help against most GMCs, as most of them have lower initiative than you do anyway.

Why wouldn't it help? You're not likely to kill them in one round of combat. So with hammer it will stun them until you get a chance to swing again.

Concussive reduces to Initiative 1. That'll only help you if the GMCs Initiative is higher then yours.
Reducing it from "slower than you" to "more slower than you" won't bring any benefits. ;-) That's what Grey Templar meant.
Imo in most situations the swords reroll from mastercrafted will be more useful then concussive from the hammer.
@necrolad42
If you're planning to buy a Rhino, then I would always recommend buying a Razorback instead.
For 4$ more you get a normal Rhino sprue plus a sprue with the Razorback options/turrent.
And it's cheap and easy to magnetize it and field it as either a Rhino or a Razorback.
Easy/Minimal version:

Heavy magnetizing version:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnE7E2A2vmg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_cJwSiX8V0
Sadly there isn't a "Start Collecting" Bundle for Grey Knights released as of now.
Everything else has already been said by Zimko and Grey Templar:
Librarian, Terminators, Dreadknights. ;-)
If you magnetize the backpacks you can swap between Purifiers and Interceptors.
