So, just having read FW's HH III, which had a lot of (dis)information about the Alpha Legion, it suddenly struck me that I aside from Legion, I have only rarely ever seen stories featuring the Alpha Legion, especially as protagonists. And since the AL is one of my favourite Legions (their HH rules are so hilarious!) this obviously won't stand. If I ever want to start a proper AL army, I have to know more about them. Trouble is, I don't know much books that have the Alpha Legion in it, aside from Legion and Deliverance Lost.

So can anyone reccomend me a book that features the Alpha Legion or an Alpha Legion character as protagonists? Both Heresy-era and 40k-era are welcome.
Please also reccomend books that have the Alpha Legion in them as antagonists or as a side faction. Basically just everything about the AL is great.

Alpha Legion book list:
30k:
Legion
Deliverance lost
The Serpent Beneath (The Primarchs Anthology)
The Harrowing (War Without End)
Sedition's Gate
Seventh Serpent
The Face of Treachery

40k:
Hunt for Voldorius
We are One
Truth is my weapon

The first two rules about the Alpha Legion are that you do not talk about the Alpha Legion.

Though an Alpha Legion character

(warning, major spoiler ahead)

(I mean it, really, super-huge spoiler pertaining to Dan Abnett's first entry in the Ravenor vs Eisenhorn series)

Spoiler:

(possibly Alpharius himself, but no one knows for certain) appears in Dan Abnett's "Pariah", though he is not the main character.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

The best 30/40k book/short story is the Serpent Beneath by Rob Sanders in the Primarchs anthology.

There's also the Harrowing and the Seventh Serpent in 30k, by Rob Sanders and McNeill.

In 40k there's the Hunt for Voldorius, We Are One, The Face of Treachery, and Truth Is My Weapon.

Some mention in Scars, Wolf King, and Hunter's Moon.

Small role in Unremembered Empire, Veritas Ferrum, and Fear to Tread.

The Long Games at Carcharias (from Victories of the Space Marines) and Unthinking Justice (from Into the Maelstrom) are short stories that feature them.

Ugh - I thought the Long Game was an awful story.

Awful.

Voldorius is another absolutely horrible one.

"40K" Alpha Legion appearances are pretty much universally bad.

There aren't many good "30K" ones either, sadly.

40k - 'We are One' by John French. Short Story - not sure which Anthology (Mine was Hammer and Bolter Volume One).

EDIT: 30k - Face of Treachery - Minor Appearance - Unsure of Author/Anthology.
