Stormcast players - what flavour of paladin are you liking the most? What is it about them in particular you like?

Retributors really are your go-to guys, especially if you have a Celestant on foot to boost their hit rolls (MW on 5+!). Don't bother with star maces unless your opponent has anything that can reduce hit rolls.

Decimators really come into their own against 1W infantry mobs though - my current record with a unit of 5 is 18W vs. Dwarf warriors in a single turn.
They can come unstuck against monsters, 40mm multiwound units & heroes, so Star maces advisable if you can't guarantee a menu of axe fodder for them.

Haven't used Protectors yet but the ability to attack in ranks (pretty much the only Stormcast unit that can do this effectively) and their shooting debuff mean these guys work best as a shield, and at least in theory should be an automatic pick if your opponent's army features more than one MONSTER. Star maces to taste, and at least on paper these guys are very survivable advancing with a Castellant or Relictor (preferably both) backing them up.

Due to the lower relative movement of Paladins, a Vexillor definitely recommended to get them exactly where you want them.

Retributors are a mainstay in any army I think for their sheer damage output. I happen to like the Protectors model the most though so when I got some to add to the starter box that's how I made them. I was enjoying them so much I totally forgot to make any with the Starsoul mace but I echo the comment above that it's a natural pairing with the Protectors most of all.

Agreed that Retributors are the mainstay, the Decimators and Protectors are specialists.

However, I would tend to go with Protectors over Decimators, sight unseen - the protectors 3 attacks (4 with the Prime) match the Decimators against many enemies and 3+/3+/-1 is nothing to sniff at. However, aim them at a monster and they will give even the Glottkin something to think about. Even against slightly smaller beasts, one round of good rolls can put the likes of a dragon or greater daemon down.

Forget their protection bonuses, they rarely seem to come into play. These guys are monster-hunters through and through.

One of my wood-for-the-trees moments. Cheers Matt, hadn't thought about them like that!

I play a bit more defensively so I enjoy the Protectors. I put archers behind them and let them play a wall against both arrows and any big monster who tries to charge out and smash into them.

Decimators WRECK undead. I had a guy summon 40 zombies against me and my 4 decimators waded in against them... 31 hit rolls first turn, another 40 the next turn... absolute destruction.

My retributors don't see the field, but I don't have a foot celestant to add to their rolls and I only have 3 of them from the starter box.

They play well, it's just the Celestant makes them utterly gross.

Don't knock the starter set trio, either - those bad boys once took out a unit of 3 Slaaneshi trolls in one turn for me!
