Hi all,

A while ago (the day it came out ) I bought the Shield of Baal: Deathstorm boxset, just to get Captain Karlaen, and I sold most of the rest, except for The Spawn of Cryptus and his 'children'. With the impending release of Deathwatch: Overkill, I've been inspired to finally do some work on the Spawn and his children.

Going from the fluff, he seems to fit the bill as a Genestealer Patriarch, and he's still probably one of my all time favourite sculpts, so, I've decided to eventually get around to building a Genestealer force, maybe a cult, based around this beauty for starters.

Without further ado, here's what we have so far:

There's a couple more photos in my galley too, if anyone fancies a look.

As always, all C&C is greatly appreciated.

EDIT: It's spelled cult.

What is this? A loyal Ultramarines succumbing to a Tyranid attack? What is the universe coming to? If/when you pick up the new Deathwatch game, you need to paint up young Cassisus first to slap some sense into you.

I think you took the purple on the back down too far. On the larger carapace he’s standing on, it’s only about 1/3 color, then fade to black. The back spike things on the 'stealer look to be the opposite. I think it looks beter when it’s blacker.

You painted the headspike like a claw, rather then carapace. What’s normal for nids?

Overall, fun looking target you’ve painted up. Now get your bolter!

Even the best of us can be tempted from time to time, but don't worry, my Scourge of the Xenos, Tyrannic War Veterans and Deathwatch (when I get the last group) are going to have A LOT of fun with these boys.
In terms of Cassius, because I use the old man version so often, and I've got a spare one of him in a box, I'm thinking about not making the young man Ortan at all... But just think of what could be done with a couple of quick weapon swaps and a new head on the new model, perfectly updated and stylish old man.

I know what you mean about the carapace, I knew as soon as I'd done it that it didn't look right, think a repaint might be in order.

Genestealer Patriarchs are often called the Four Armed Emperor, so if I want to use the Spawn as a Patriarch, do you know what he'll need?

Four arms, all basecoated and with their first wash.

I also did a smidgen of work on his face, nothing finished, but a start for what I intend:

Now, next we meet the Children. Half of the closest ones anyway. I had it in my head that these aliens, worshipped as the kin of a god by the cult, would be partially vested as their 1st and 2nd generation nephews and nieces, more to make the cult feel like everyone is included, and also to show compassion to the masters. On the table I think this will help unify a combined Genestealer heavy Tyranid force and a Cult too. I'm not going to robe everyone, but 3/8 with some form of garment seems to be enough in my head to show allegiance.

Now, some of you may not be familiar with this next one. If you are familiar with the story of the Phodian Annihilation Swarm, you probably won't be familiar with this, but if you are familiar with the rules for the Patriarch, you will be familiar with what I'm doing, even if you aren't familiar with what it looks like...

It's a Familiar.

I decided that my Cult was going to be quite dark and morbid, so I've sculpted this familiar with tattered robes and a skull for a head. Still no finished (as if anything I ever do gets finished.) But I'd love some feedback on how it looks so far:

He's based on a ripper for anyone interested, just so you know.
As always, I'd love all C+C, and there's probably some photos I missed in my gallery.

I think the robes and bits of cloth should help tie together the army when it’s painted. Love the little guy. He defiantly has the creepy evil vibe going on.
