So I have been thinking of starting a Necron force (returning to 40k after around a year out). And have came up with a list I would like some feedback on.

Bare in mind I am not yet delving into the formations or any of that sort of stuff, so for now just a cad list to learn the army etc.

Went with immortals over warriors, even though more expensive, I think they are more of a solid choice being tougher and more firepower, maybe split into 4x5 squads?.

Cryptek and overlord roll with the Lychguard.

Stalker/Doom Scythe provide support fire as well as some anti vehicle.

But yh, very new, only just started reading through the codex, so any suggestions are welcome and appreciated .

Well the first and foremost question would be: Why are you not running the Decurion? You have Tomb Blades, and I'm assuming you have Warriors Laying around.

Other than that, I can recommend that Mindshackle Scarabs are next to useless, so I would drop them for a Gauntlet of Fire or something. I'm also wondering where the Overlord and Cryptek are going. I'm assuming the Lychguard, but there's no delivery method for them, so the Solar Staff would kind of be a waste. I would probably drop the Doom Scythe and exchange it for a Night Scythe to get them there. Then with the saved points, if the Cryptek is going with the Lychguard, give him a Chronometron at the very least, as you're running them with Warscythes so they have no invuln.

Also, what is your plan with the Immortals? Back Field Camping objectives? And if so, then the Triarch Stalker is kind of a waste, as those would be the only real units it would be buffing.

Run a Decurion. Mindshackle scarabs are rubbish. TNS is a bit overcosted. If you're bringing Decurion drop that Cryptek but if you really want one bring Orikan. Warscythe Lychguard aren't as good as sword and board Lychguard. Those 5 Deathmarks aren't worth it unless you have 10. For troops bring 10 Immortals with Gauss Cannons (they're better) and bring warriors as the rest. I like the wraiths, they'll be deadly as well as the tomb blades. You're also going to be wanting to run some Ghost Arks or Night Scythes with your troops as well.

Ultra-Ultramarines are a great idea.

Don't run a Decurion. 1. It's not necessary, 2. The unit taxes are awkward, 2. Every Decurion looks the same and it's boring. I've been running combined arms for months and have had no problems taking home games.

As for your list, yeah, drop the mindshackles. The Nightmare Shroud can be good, but it depends on your meta. Against Tau, it's devastating. Against most other armies, not so much. I'm not a fan of Warscythe Lychguard, they're expensive and not much tougher than tactical Marines. Sword/Board Lychguard are better. Gauss on your Immortals is better. In rapid fire range, Gauss outputs more than Tesla, can scrap vehicles/Dreadnoughts and punch through 4+ armour making it more versatile. You'll find that 5 Deathmarks just doesn't have enough impact. You need 7+ if you want them to do any damage. Doom Scythes look good on paper, but underperform on the tabletop. Night Scythes are better.

Don't turn a blind eye to Warriors and any Necron army needs both Warriors and Immortals. Put 15 Warriors with a Cryptek and get your 4+ Reanimation while presenting your opponent with a tough unit of Objective Secured to deal with.
