Hi Folks

I'm thinking of starting a Rogue Trader army and I'm wondering what people think are using with regards to army list. I'm thinking of using a real mismatch of stuff based around a core of the Witch Hunters codex. Inquisitor lord with retinue for Trader etc. Was then thinking of using various allied units and counts as.
Fluff wise I was thinking of having a rogue Tau earth caste (counts as IG Techpriest) and his close entourage, maybe some Ad Mech mixed in for good measure like a weird hybrid of tech. There will be some assassins, antiquated looking stormtroopers and possibly some kind of outcast Space Marines.

That's a brief overview so thought I'd see what ideas people had. All going well I'll set up a full thread when I actually start it.

I'd try to use some of Wargame Exclusives models, they look very Rogue Trader-y.

I have deliberated a RT with a XV85 enforcer suit with all the heretical symbols scrubbed off and replaced with GOOOOOOOLLLLLLDDDDDD AQUILAAAAAAS! (that should be the new john cena.... and his name is gooolden aquilaa! Da na na naaaaaa...)

Take a look at the wfb empire range, they have lots of cool models that would be ideal for conversions.

For army list use:

Inquisition ( for the diversity )+ all sorts of crazy Allies. There are lots of cool options out there.

I would not advice you to use counts as alien races etc. Use the always use the closest thing available and never let stuff count as a different faction. If you want field some cool tau units use tau rules. Your army would already be confusing enough for most opponents.

I fail to see how black and gold Tau suit with Imperial mounted weapons and aquilas everywhere would confuse factions.

You cannot mistake a true Imperial for some foul xenos!

Well this

will be very confusing. Sure you might make some nice conversions but most opponents will forget that it is a IG techpiest once the game continues.
If you want to field some rogue tau eath caste or some kroot mercenaries make some cool conversions but use actual tau rules for them. This can be just as fun to play, and might create a more unique army.

I've got a myriad of stuff in my bits box I can use to make up some mental conversions so thats a start guys. Thanks for all the advice. Will have a think and see what I can come up with. :-)

TheCrusadeSmurf I certainly do. Always wanted a Genestealer cult but never got round to it.

If the rumours are true, keep an eye on GW/FW in the near future.

Let us assume that Elblondino knows his opponents better than you or I; if he reckons they'll get it, then it should be fine. On the other hand, Techpriests are quite bulky and wearing power armour, while Earth Caste technicians are rather weedy. If you can get away with using actual Tau rules for him, that'd be better, I think. I wouldn't have any Adeptus Mechanicus models in the same squad as him, though - they'll be more likely to be clustered at the other corner of the room muttering about hereteks.
