Ok so I did a 15 point game last night and have some questions.
Question, how do you chase down warcasters or deal with warcasters that can ignore say a model because of base size.
For instance, he was running her around (pathfinder) and all his stuff had that because of rabid, how would you deal with a situation like that? Make them come to you? I think it was Nissa he had (the girl with the bow) and he was able to pop shots at my jacks from far away and always being in cover left it very difficult for me to close the gap.
My jacks were AMAZING in close combat but getting through the forest, etc.. was the most challenging, looking for opinions on how to deal with it.
I believe one of my solos grants pathfinder so I might try that but apart from that in bigger lists I can see that as being a problem, especially if I cannot shoot into the terrain.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Here is some stuff I own, although after my first game I am loving how the harbinger plays so i'd like to keep using her.
Casters
- Harbinger of Menoth
- Grand Scrutator Severius (pSeverius)
- High Exemplar Kreoss (pKreoss)
Warjacks
- Reckoner
- Crusader
- Templar
- redeemer
- Repenter
Solos
- Hierophant
- Rhupert Carvolo (merc)
- Exemplar errant seneschal
- Knights Exemplar Seneschal
- Eiryss, Angel of Retribution (eEiryss, merc)
- High Paladin Dartan vilmon
- 2x Paladin of the Order of the Wall
- Vassal of menoth
Units
- Exemplar errants
- Errant unit attachment
- choir
- Exemplar Cinerators
- Lady Aiyana and Master Holt (mercs)

What faction were you playing against? Rabid does nothing for a caster.
You can shoot into terrain. You can't see more than 3" into a forest.
In larger games it's not as easy to run away from things. When you play the various scenerios the caster just can't keep running or else you can win via the alternate win conditions (called a scenerio victory). Also some scenerios have a format called kill box where the caster can not come within 14" of any board edge without handing you some serious points toward the scenerio victory.

Number one suggestion: Play scenarios, especially ones from Steam Roller or one of PPs other player packs (like the league games). It is possible, especially in smaller games, to kite very effectively, but Senarios really even up the odds. Probably just start with mosh pit from the book if you're still playing very small games, but the Steamroller Senarios are excellent to use if you're over 25 points.
Secondly, lack of pathfinder on our Jacks is one of our biggest weaknesses, but we do fairly well for infantry with path finder. You already have all the right tools to play with here - Exemplar Errants with UA have pathfinder, and Rhupart Carvolo can give any unit Pathfiner (Remember that "Unit" means a squad of infantry here - he can't affect Jacks/Solos/Warcasters).
Between a scenario to keep Lylyth (the Legion Battlebox Caster) from hiding or kiting around the board, and some pathfinder infantry to help deal with opponents in terrain, and probably a larger game overall, you'll probably have a very different play experience from the game you're talking about.

Scenarios. Always play with even a minor scenario other than just caster kill. It doesn't need to be complicated. But this will reduce running away and balance gunlines.
The game also balances of alot more at 35 and 50 point games. Starter games tend to be unbalanced no matter how hard you try.

It sounds like your opponent may have been using some of their models incorrectly... Furthermore 15 points is great for learning the rules and fooling around but, at least IMO, you need to play 25+ points to really get a feel for the game.
So in essence, don't sweat it, have fun and learn how to play. Make sure your reading your opponents cards, for both your sakes. It sounds like he was treating the shredders rabid ability as its animus, which it isn't. A shredder can give it self rabbid and can cast its animus, tenacity, on any model in range.
Finally, given the models you own, at 15 points try:
pKreoss
Repenter
Redeemer
Reckoner
min. Choir
Keep defenders ward on your reckoner all game, for an effective Def 14 / Arm 21 Jack.
When playing Lylyth, a 5 fury warlock, lamentation actually hurts if she tries to upkeep parasite.
Assuming you're basically playing against the legion battlebox, purification wipes the field clean of all your opponent's defencive tech; armor bonus from parasite, density, spiny growth.
When his casters in your control range pop feat, and blast the hell out of it with a fully loaded redeemer.
