Depends on the Tau?

It’s not a bad looking list. If you are worried about the Tau MC/GMCs I might try to work in more grav guns. Flamers might be good for getting pathfiders out of ruins, if that’s what you are worried about. But then, just going in after them with frag grenades and rifle butts.

The question is if a general TAC has the power to punch out a Tau player. If he’s using some of the newer toys and tricks, you probably need to do the same. If he has a similar list, with maybe one riptide, a few random squads, etc. you should do fine.

Thanks for your advice! I have no idea what the tau player will bring though,

Maybe I should remove the power fists and flamer in the rhino squads and replace with grav and combi-grav weapons?

Over half my army was completly destroyed first turn. First shot ever fired made my land raider explode.

Is it even fun to play such an overpowered army?

Ouch! What was he fielding, and how much was luck/bad rolls vs. just being powerful?

Tau are expert shooters in a ruleset slanted in their favor. It’s going to be an uphill battle vs. them, no matter what.

Things like the skyhammer annihilation force, or grav cents in drop pods can wreck his day. While not perfect, there are things you can do to step up the firepower you put out.

What did the tau player bring because I would love to help a fellow marine player struggling with a specific army. I had a problem with necrons for ages. If you really want to show the tau player boss bring a grav centurion squad in a drop pod with tigurius.

He had 2 riptides, 4 broadsides, 8 battlesuits, fire warrior squad with missiles, breacher squad in devilfish, 2 piranahs and a ethereal. I think that was it... it was brutal.

I've played my same list two more games against two other people. It actually worked very well.

One was against a Blood Angel drop pod army, I felt kind of bad for him. Only his drop pods was left standing by the end of turn four. I can say the redeemer really earned back its points that game.

The other was one most fun and even games I've ever played. It ended up in a loss in the end, but Im still happy with that. It was against our most experienced member of our gaming group and his imperial guard. The MVP of this game was definently Cassius. He destroyed a leman russ punisher and killed guardsmen left and right to secure his objective. Too bad it wasn't enough, it ended up 4vs5 points. The razorbacks did very well aswell, made lots of things explode and made heavy weapons missile teams flee of the board by insta-killing the first in thier squad.

Yep Tau and Landraiders ..

I took two raiders to a tournament several years back and had the same experience. 500 points of wrecked raiders end turn 1.

As Nevelon points out however once you get into their face they are putty. You just have to get there...

I don't think Centurions can take Drop Pods, the datacard says they can only take Land Raider variants as transport. The Drop Pod datacard doesn't list them either.

What he means is he uses a fast attack slot to get 1 not a dedicated transport.

Are you taking the combi-plasmas on the sergeant?

Otherwise decent list would have gone for more tanks myself but that's just me.

Ultra-Ultramarines are a great idea.

Yup. The ability to just take pods and stuff whatever you can fit into them opened up some very nasty tricks. Mostly with allies, as there are a number of armies that want to be in point blank range and don’t have a decent way of getting there quickly. But also with units like Cents, which are not forbidden from using pods, but can take them dedicated.

This makes it rough to fit them into formations, as you can’t just take loose pods in them, but if you have a CAD, you can just use FA slots to grab them.

Cents in drop pods feels so evil, I will only allow myself to use that against Tau..... and Eldar
