Hey guys, I used to play a lot of 40K when i was younger around 4th edition.

I'm looking about getting back into the game and just want to run a list by you, I'm sure your sick to death of more SM lists but here's mine!

The game seemed to have changed an awful lot, so would either of these do ?

The plan is to shoot a lot of guns and counter assault any threats with the jump marines

Welcome to Dakka, and back to the marines.

A quick word on formations. You can only take from the options listed. So the battle demi-company is a captain or chaplain, 3 tac squads, 1 assault squad, and one dev squad. With options to swap for the AM/DM, and completely optional dread/command squads. But if you want another tac squad, you either need another formation, or to also include a combined arms detachment (where you can just take things the old fashioned way) Also a lot of the FW things are not on the approved list for basic formations.

You might want to look into the full company gladius. You would have to leave the Deredeo at home, but it’s the way to do razorspam these days.

Both your lists look like they should do reasonably well on the table. You have a decent balance of firepower, and some big hitters to deal with the nasty stuff out there. There is a wide gap in competitiveness these days, so check to see what kind of lists are being played at your FLGS.

This list would die miserably to a skyhammer force.

His cents would counter a cents star on its own, but he would be alpha struck so hard he would be crippled for the rest of the game.

Check out dragio llists, GK pod lists, warpgating cent stars, all things wulfen, and a rapid insert team from tau. Dont forget ghostkeels with stupid cover. You have no anti cover when the Dorito is dropped. I would find a way to fit it in. Thats something people dont expect. a Dorito with missles and autos that mows down flyers and skimmers. Intercept eldar and tau and hit stuff without los.

For this list I was going to go with a straight CAD giving me objective secured on my troop choices (right?).

The new gladius formation does indeed look very powerful and blatant attempt for GW to extract as much money out of players, I wish I had that kind of money for models

You guys were right about me not having enough firepower so I have updated my list to include a lot more power at long and short ranges, as well as handle hordes. Would the rifleman / razorbacks going to have enough firepower to take down fliers?

General tactics would be to move forward to engage the enemy while preds take out enemy Armour. The small assault squad would use the razorbacks to block LOS and then counter assault as and when needed.

Having not played the game in years are flyers that much of a problem, if so any suggestions ?
