Subject: Ghosts of Yme Loc: Tactics for a Wraith Eldar Army
Hello everyone, recently I stumbled across an unbelievable deal from a friend of mine who finally has decided to sell his Wraith Themed Eldar to focus more on other projects, in particular his Sons of Horus army. Because of this I was able to get a mostly painted army of Wraith Themed eldar for maybe a quarter of the cost and I jumped at it as I havent been playing as many games as of late waiting for my Tau to be finished, completely painted before utilizing them. Now I already have some games lined up this weekend however I have no idea honestly how to play the army so that is where you guys come in, what tactics do you think I could best utilize from the forces that I have available? The following models I have are:
-x15 Wraithguard (x10 with D Cannons, x5 with Scythes gaming group doesnt matter if I swith them up whenever)
-x3 Wave Serpents (Same as with Wraithguard they dont mind if I change up my turrets)
-x1 Wraithlord
-x1 Wraithknight
-x1 Spirit Seer
Now below I have put together a list with the models I have available with the goal point range being 1500pts.
-Wraithknight
*w/ Suncannon and Scattershield, x1 Scatter Laser
TOTAL ARMY: 1495 POINTS
Idea behind this list is to utilize the manouverbility and and firepower that I have at my disposal before pushing up aggresively to delive the knockout blow. What do you guys think in regards to the list ive put together with the models I have available? Any changes to any loadouts, relics or anything else you see that I should attempt to change? Let me know what you guys think and thanks for posting!
19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.

This is pretty much exactly how I run my 'Necromancer's Warhost' Eldar army, although I was still using the 6th edition book last time I played it. Zoom around shooting things, blowing up scary vehicles/monsters with the wraithguards, and jump the Wraithknight around to make people scared. I've found that the Wraithlord is the weakest link in this sort of army, but I love the model (and to my understanding you need one for a Wraithhost in the 7e book. He does OK camping on a backfield objective plinking away at enemies, though.
The biggest issue is that the army can get quickly bogged down by infantry hordes if you're not careful about where you move to. 5 man Wraithguard squads aren't going to be wading through 30 termagants very quickly if they find themselves stuck without a transport nearby.

Any particular reason why I should take shuriken cannons over scatter lasers? I always thought the higher rate of fire and strength we're better aspects? Would I be better off running the standard D Weapons on the knight? I don't have access to the FW book so I don't know what that other Cannon does

I don't think there's a whole lot of difference between taking Scatter Lasers or Shurikan Cannons. Both are S6 and one is A3, AP5 with Bladestorm the other is AP6 with A4.
The Suncannon's not bad if you're only going to be targeting Infantry but at S6 isn't much good for dealing with tanks.
The Forge World Weapons for the Skathatch Wraithknight are the Deathshroud Cannon and Inferno Lance. The Deathshroud Cannon is (Focussed) S7, AP4 Hellstorm Template with Shred and Monofilament or (Dispersed) 48" S7 AP4 Heavy 1, Shred Massive Blast Monofilament.
An Inferno Lance is 36" ST8, AP1 Heavy D3+2 Melta.
You can take the weapons as pairs or a gun and Scattershield but you can't mix the guns. Just remember the base cost of the Skathatch is 315pts and comes with a Jump generator that lets you put it into Ongoing Reserve.
Given that having 2 D Cannon with 36" range and can fire at 2 different targets can be really powerful, I think running a Skathatch in the Wraithhost with either a Deathsroud Cannon or Inferno Lance and a Scatter Field is a good way of doing it.

I don't have my updated Imperial Armor on hand - but I believe there was a specific call out that allowed the Skatatchs to be used in lieu of traditional Wraithknights in this formation.
Other than that, I've toyed with the idea of using a Dark Eldar Corpse Thief Claw formation utilizing slightly converted Wraithlords for Taloi. They're of similar size and armament, and that formation is the one thing I've found that makes slow monstrous creatures useful again.
