I introduced some family members to Talisman this weekend and it seems to be a hit. My intent is to start playing it again a bit more regularly, and I figured once we've played through the main game a few times it might be nice to add some of the expansions. Obviously, there are quite a few of them and some of them add more to the game than others. Does anyone have any recommendations on what expansions would be best to start with? And what is the upper limit to the number of expansions you can reasonably play at the same time without making the game take days to complete? Any input and recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

If you don't get an answer here, check out BoardGameGeek's Talisman forum. IIRC, Reaper is good. Skip Dragon and Highland for now.

There're also faster-playing variants on the forum.

I would recommend:
The dungeon: quite fun and can be played as a small board.
The city: my gf loves shopping in the city and levelling up.
The reaper: is a good for extra random cards....dont really use the reaper himself often
The sacred pool: adds some cool extra cards
The netherrealsms (?): adds some overpowered baddies. I don't use it vanilla but rather dependent on the game shuffle in some into the random deck or put a few on strategic loations on the board.

Basically anything that adds cards to random deck. Talisman is my favourite game bar anything (boardgame wise)

Awesome! Thanks guys! I picked up the Reaper expansion and will start to integrate that into our games. Once we get a handle on that I'll probably add one of the bigger ones like the Dungeon or the City.
