So I'm hoping to make a super competitive tyranids list for a tournament that I'd like to have a chance at winning.
I don't have any Nids, but I love the idea of the swarm and want to bring that to a tournament that's in 8 months.
Could someone please push me in the direction of some sweet, competitive lists?

Umm, Tyranids are, unfortunately not close to the top of the power scale, doubly so as a swarm build. Your best list will probably be something like two hive fleet detachments with 3 flyrants and 3 mucolids in each, then daemon allies with a Herald of tzeentch and unit of horrors...
Skyblight plus genestealer cult adds some interesting options, but still not setting the world on fire.
The last competitive build for tyranids, lictorshame, was horribly outpaced by the 2015 codices.

Big bugs and deepstriking ripper swarms are the way to go. Ive been having extreme success with a barbed heirodule and malanthropes as well. As for playing swarm lists, it usually doesnt pan out :(

first! there is a really good Tactica in the WH40k section of these boards, have a read.
Second! the nids these days are a struggle to play with all the shooting an army gets to do at you before you even get into combat! that being said a lot of the core in your army is the flyrant with 2 twinlinked dev's, putting out like 24 twin linked shots a round is insane, and he can still get psy powers. after that there are really only 2 builds, monster spam or bodies. with monster span look to get lots of carnafexes in both shooty and stabby forms, but dont mix them! remember they can come in squads so 1 for shooting and 1 for stabing both sharing the bio plasma large blast and they can reck shop. Tervigon is great but again you need at least 2 or more to get any real chance of getting enough spawns. Tyrannofex is a great tank even with just the 2 flamers base. on and on, basically just take more then 2 of the big guys you cant go to wrong. For bodies you will need to stack out your synaps. Best for this is more Tervigons but like 4-6, flyrant, maybe a carnafex or 2. then stack warriors in 5-7 man squads and as many gants as you can!! stabby gants with poison is great and shooty gants in droppods can be amazing!
welp that's a start !!

Yeah, sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but think it's better to not go in with false expectations. They can still be strong in less competitive environments, but there are unfortunately numerous top builds they just can't deal with very well.
They pay a premium for mediocre combat abilities, and generally aren't built to be highly shooting, but do it better than combat. Their MCs are all priced for 6th edition smash and vector strike, which were both hit hard in 7th. And instinctive behavior is a largely crippling rule for running any sort of swarm list.

There was a Tyranid list that took the 40K community by surprise last year. I forget what tournament, but it ran lots of Dakka Flyrants, Mawlocs and Lictors.

It was lictorshame - more or less what you posted. It was good vs. shooty armies, particularly serpent spam and knights. 2015 Codexes really overran that meta and the top lists nowadays just laugh off lictorshame's tricks. I played it for 6 months, built a Necron list, and in about a dozen playtests, never found a way lictorshame stood a chance.

That's unfortunate. I don't have a Tyranid army, but absolutely love the models and would like to see more Tyranids out and about.

Don't let the meta get you down! We still have a small chance as Nid players. I use 3 flying hive tyrants myself, although it's entirely possible to get 5+.give them electroshock grubs. With a few hive crones, you have enough haywire to toast imperial Knights. Mawlocks are great, but somewhat unreliable until the lictor is involved. Even so, lictors are there for quick objective snatchers. Tyrranocyte makes your ground nids badass. Tervigon, exocrine, or even a t-Fex will throw a wrench in your opponents plan. It's all about giving them the hard decisions to make. Kill the single lictor holding the objective? Or the huge acid spraying tyrranofex that just landed in my back lines?
