Hi all.

I just ordered the FW Mechanicum book and im looking forwards to dive into the lore.
I'm not a very patient man so i already started to look at the models.

To put it mildly, this army is going to cost me a arm and a leg (even if it is the cheapest army to get).

Do anyone out there have any tips on what to aim for for my first 1000p, something to build up from to 2500p?

Im thinking of getting this MECHANICUM TAGHMATA SUPPORT CADRE
And perhaps adding something else while im at it ?

but i dont know if i going the wrong way here....

Any advice ?

Tough call man, first hurdle is picking a preferred HQ choice as that can affect what you take as troops. (i find lachrimallus lists fun but Calleb Decima is the man with a plan!)

Second hurdle is what do you feel works for you as troops?

After these two choices anything else will be target specific.
The bundle doesn't look that great to me - you'll stop using the thanatar after a bit because of how many points he uses for what he does and there isn't enough of either troop type for my liking.
But thats just me, if the price works for you then go for it!

thanks for the reply.

I guess im just impatient...
Ill have to wait for my book and do it the old fashioned way and learn the army
As i dont have the book i didnt know that my HQ had that much of an impact on how to proceed.

To bad about the Thanatar, he looks bad ass haha.
Might just have go fluffy on this army, who knows

Yeah, my mate collects emperors children and doesn't play a game without a paragon blade on his HQ - thanatar tends to go down before getting a hit in himself.

So HQ choices...
Calleb Decima has to take thallax as compulsory troops, but is an eternal warrior.
Inmar Satarael is an MC HQ with an invuln save that bounces the shot back on a six.
Archmagos Draycavac is the first dark mechanicum HQ and can also use the imperial knight household list (Imperial Knights as troops!)
Magos Dominus can join units of MC's despite the rules

Taghmata magos/archmagos can specialize...
Lachrimallus has no stipulations, but brings back thrall units on a 5+ when destroyed.
Malagra is the CC specialist, gaining preferred enemy (characters), +1WS and +1 attack in CC
Archimandrite makes all vehicles gain IWND
Myrmidax basically turns him into a myrmidon secutor
Ordinator gets a d3 ordinance template once per game and gets armourbane on all his weapons
Makrotek allos an extra fortification and a re-rollable battlesmith 3+

Thallax are really good IMHO - i enjoy banishing those pesky infiltrating units back to thier deployment zone! (no infiltrators can deploy within 24" of a thallax cohort)

Thanatars can be really fun (the one that lobs the large blasts, for example), but you'll find a common theme in the fact that most of your robots will not function well in close combat. this bundle looks okay, but honestly, either brows through 1d4chans taghmata page or wait for you book. Start with a magos, of course, and then expand from there: thallax or Tech-thralls as your core troops (do you want killy and mobile or super cheap for tarpits and objective capping?) and then just go down the line taking what you like the look/fluff of.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.
