Quick question which I kinda know the answer to, seeing I can do what ever I want with my minies, but...

Do I need to paint them as Ultramarine and Word bearers, besides lore and what not, would it be okay to paint up two other chapters I like more?

PS: I have only opened the box and painted a few test models, haven't read anything about the game.

If you plan on playing the game, you will need to paint them as two forces. IIRC it’s:

Terminator captain
Terminators
10 tac marines

vs.

Chaplain
20 tac marines
Dread

They could be neon orange vs. polkadots, as long as you can tell who’s on which side.

The fluff and flavor of a lot of the cards tie into the chapters, but as long as you are OK with it being slightly off, it’s not a big deal.

Your game, paint it how you like.

Personally, I’m painting everything in the box Ultramarine, as that’s my main army. I do have enough old Blood Angels on the shelf to sub in for the WB if I ever want to play the game as-is.

You could paint them as whatever you like, this box is used by a lot of space marine players as their base for all their basic marines / terminators of their force.

You can paint them all however you want for whatever uses you intend.

You could have them be imperial fist vs salimanders for all you care.

or you could even paint them all a single legion for 40k or 30k.

I'm not to fussed about the fluff, so I'd rather paint them (as two forces) in a chapter I like, rather than two I don't really care about.

So Raven Guard and Sons of Horus, here I come! (With a few allies of other chapters that I just want to paint!)
