Hey guys!

So I play Necrons and Space Marines, and I've got a Knight Crusader that I use interchangeably for both armies. BUT - the Crusader obviously doesn't fit in amongst my adorable metal xenos. So now I want another one to go and merrily eradicate the organics that have set up shop on the Necron's lawn.

I want to do a kitbash or conversion piece - I don't want to just buy a Knight and paint it in a Necron scheme. However, I've never really done any major kitbashes or conversions before, so I'm looking for suggestions as to how to pull this off with a minimum of muss and fuss and a maximum of awesome-factor. I'm taking some inspiration from this thread but I want my end result to look a lot more Necron-y.

So far, my game plan has been to start with a Doomsday Ark as a base. Cut off the middle part of the big arches to make 6 or 8 spider legs. Then create a kind of platform that the legs support, possibly using the other arches, or maybe going in with the body platform from the Annihilation Barge kit, and stick a C'Tan on top of that (my preferred would be the Transcendent....if I can find one reasonably priced online). After that point is where I start to run into issues, though. I'd like to crown that platform with something - probably the "pilot's chair" assembly from the D. Ark, but not sure how to support it over the C'Tan. And I'm struggling a bit with where I would get workable arms for this bash - I had a vague thought of using Wraith bodies as 'tentacle arms' but I don't think they'd provide enough support for the weapons I'm putting on this bad boy - a green-stuffed Reaper Chainsword (to look like a Warscythe) and a Doomsday Cannon.

Open to any and all suggestions here, guys - don't want to drop a bunch of money on extra models, then chop them up to find out it won't work.

Sounds like quite an ambitious project. You mentioned that you are not very experienced with kit bashing.

If you don't mind using non-GW models then it might be an idea to start with something like the Dreamforge Leviathan Mortis as the bas and add more 'Necron' to it?

I don't mind using non-GW products if the end result looks good! That being said, the Leviathan Mortis isn't exactly the look I'm going for - although it's an interesting suggestion. Think something like a Triarch Stalker combo'd with a Tesseract Vault - and arms - and you'll be on close to the right track.

I would imagine that some or most of your problems could be solved with brass/copper wire bent into the proper shape and hammered flat (lighting/ electrical discharge) for the command platform, and green stuffed and or bits plasticard tubing to give it the look/feel of the segmented wraith arms. Or greenstuffed too look like segmented electrical wire.

Hmm...I'm not sure how wire solves my problems, except maybe if it's being used to support other pieces, and disguised as cables or something. Could you elaborate?

As an aside, I hadn't really considered non-plastic parts for the model. Anyone else have any suggestions that might be used to improve my design?

That was my intention with the brass to use it as support. It supports more weight then plastic tube (less droop), and is easy made to look Necron.

I found this on google:

Looks like a knight torso with the armor stripped off and replaced with Tomb Spyder armor and the legs replaced with engines from the Tesseract Vault.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

I found a similar image and remembered this thread.
Spoiler:

I'm fairly certain it's the same model but with "legs" and a slightly different pose.

Hopefully should help inspire you
