Indy is coming back. Disney just announced that Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford will return to one of their most famous franchises as Indiana Jones 5 opens on July 19, 2019.

“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios, in a news release. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”

We’ll have more soon.

.. I dunno what's worse : the fact they're dragging this out again.....

Really? I only count two. I know it sucks, but they never ended up filming Alien: Engineers.

To be honest, I'd be happy with just the one Bubba Ho-tep movie. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If Spielberg and company stick with the formula of making the next Indy film a 30's era pulp adventure, and not do the 50's sci-fi camp that Crystal Skull paid homage to I'll be cautiously optimistic.

I feel the South Park episode with George Lucas and Stephen Spielberg in is verrry relevant where this film's concerned.

I'll not post the video here, but I'm sure those of you who search for it on YouTube will find it in a flash.

I liked the 50s pulp theme to the Crystal Skull. It's not that bad a film other than a few dreadful parts and over reliance on goofy effects - the truck chase and swinging through the forest on vines with monkeys turned it into a computer game. The truck chase from Raiders was about as far as reality could be pushed.

The idea of rooting later films in the style of later pulp publishing isn't a problem, and keeps the films reinventing rather than retreading, it was the execution that ruined it.

i guess I'm in the minority in thinking that the Crystal Skull wasn't all bad.

The script was really weak and wished they didn't go the alien route... but, the acting was superb imo.

Crystal Skulls issue, outside of the alien stuff that turned people off (which I didn't mind personally), was Shia Lebuf (sp?). He was terrible and not the person you wanted to see taking over the reins of such an iconic hero.

Honestly it's a pretty narrow field that might be able to do. I wish Chris Pratt had been known or bigger back then. I feel, looking at him now, that'd he fit the part perfectly.

This film should really be called- Indiana Jones and the hip replacement of doom.

Or maybe Indiana Jones and the Temple of False Teeth

Somewhere in south-central England.

I enjoyed The Crystal Skull, actually, but Harrison Ford is too old to be an action hero any more.

I also thought Alien 3 was a better film than many people, though of course it was a very bleak and non-triumphant ending.

Meh. It kinda killed everyone interesting (The survivors, the doctor, the Warden) instantly, and left us trying to care about a bunch of redshirts. Throw in a lack of actual scares or action, and emphasis on underwhelming special effects and gore, and you get a bad movie.

As for this movie, I suspect that it's going to consist of surrounding Harrison Ford with people in 50's outfits and watching him get injured.

A real shame River Phoenix (plays the young Indy in Last Crusade) is dead, he would've made a pretty good Indy replacement for Harrison Ford

I had similar thoughts I didn't think Crystal Skull was a bad movie or a good movie, just mediocre like a 5-6/10, a C grade. Had some good moments like the diner scene and the action scenes that followed after it where they're in the city.

I'm firmly in the camp of 'Crystal Skull is an insult to cinema' frame.

However, the thing to remember is, yeah, Ford's getting on a bit but he did kinda walk off a plane crash last year. - Not many people can say that.

I agree. I think it would have been much better revived if it wasn't under the India Jones name.

The directors cut of Alien 3 is fantastic, the theatrical cut is quite lackluster. The former does a much more cohesive job of telling the story.

While some parts of the movie were very over the top (like the aforementioned Shia swinging with monkeys scene), I enjoyed KotCS very much overall. I don't mind the alien stuff (after all, there was plenty of wierdness in the other Indiana Jones movies), and I found Harrison Ford to still be pretty good as the character of Indy. I'm tentatively excited about the prospect of a new Indy movie, although it looks like we'll be waiting for a few years (hope Harrison Ford doesn't have a heart attack or something...).
