Just ordered 2 starters, and 3 additional ships (one for each faction in the starter so i can have 3 ships each hopufully to build 3 on 3 fleets vs. each other for starters. I been trying to use the spacedock ap and it is somewhat helpful but not knowing all the upgrades im hoping i can get the 3 fleets close in points (looking at maybe 120 points each... though i read that was a tournament size fleet somehwere so thought it might be a good starting point to shoot for on my ships).

So i will have:

two Galaxy Class starter ships and a U.S.S Phoenix

two klingon starter ships and a I.K.S. Koraga

two starter warbirds and a I.R.W. Valdore

My plan is just for casual play (I dont really know of anyone playing attack wing nearby) for pick up games with friends.

Questions:

Will ships like the ENterprise E and Refit be re-released at least ship model wise? (i expect the cards probably will change and i honestly dont care about them as much as having ships to throw on the table for fun with my friends should games occur)

Is spacedock ap decent for ship building?

What is normal amount of points used for game? Like 40k 1750-2000, KOW 2000, bolt action 1000, etc....I am assuming 120 points as i had read as a recommendation for tournaments but it was just an internet site/post i saw somewhere.

.

Welcome!

First, to answer your a cond question: 120 is the recommended tournament format, but the game is fun at both the low points and higher point values. Just keep in mind that for each hundred points you add, you are adding almost an hour of gameplay.

As to your first question: yes, the Enterprise-E and Refit are both being re-released in the next few months actually (both out by July, iirc).

A bit of advice: buying just the retail ships is worth it for casual play, especially the original Constitution-class Enterprise. The Haakona and the Scimitar are great ships for the Romulans, though several other retail ships add ALOT as well.

The Klingons are fun, but they require ALOT more love and patience to get routine victories with. Since you are playing casually, you may not see as much of the power differential between them and the others.

Once again, welcome to the game, and good hunting!

Thank you for the reply! . Good to know on adding 100 points adds an hour of game play . Yeah i will probably consider buying a few more ... when i get funds for it... maybe around July... great to know they re-release ships! Interesting about the Klingons... like a lot of people i am sure they are my favorites... heck my first Space Marine Chapter was designed off Klingons lol.

I recommend this game to any casual gamer, it's a great, easy to learn and easy to build a useful force game.

I also recommend going 'faction pure', have a fleet from your faction and stick with it. A small group of friends sitting down and agreeing factions, or pooling resources to build several faction fleets to try out is great, it's what we've done and i've got regular folks playing their first ever tabletop wargame.

I really like the additional depth over xwing granted with the captains, the more survivable ships and the deck building aspect. The scenarios that come with the ships are hit and miss, but the ones that work are really great fun.
