I'm making a Karambit out of plasticard. Sorry!



As you can see it's horribly curved. What's the best tool to use to cut it out?

How big is it going to be? That largely determines the tools you can use. Also is a model holding it, or are you just making the knife by itself (ie. do you need to carve the handle as well or will it be hidden).

I'd probably drill or holesaw out the circlular part of the handle. The rest of it (depending on how large) I'd probably just sketch it out, cut it out with a knife but slightly oversized (the cuts won't have nice curves to them), then sand and file it down (round or half round files and regular sandpaper) to get the curves smooth.

I'm planning it to be around 16-17 cm long, so life sized. I'll use heavier scissors to cut out the larger areas. I have a keychain ring to act as the handle. I guess cutting everything out really roughly and then sanding it is the way to go.

get yourself an Olfa Circle cutter.

Yup, a circle cutter. They're not really designed for plasticard, but work fine for cutting a curved line deep enough for the plasticard to then be snapped cleanly along that line.

Plastic versions should be easily found in decent art supply shops. You might want to hunt out metal ones, if you're going to run a knife around them.

(On that note, scribers can be dead good for smooth cuts in plasticard.)
