Hi there,
I read my C:SM again today, and I noticed that the ATF just need 3 unit and 1 techmarine.
So, let's say you have 2 vindicator and 1 whirlwind,
Put your tehcmarine in a rhino/razorback,
Put each vindic 6" to the rhino/razo,
you now have two vindic that can't be dealt with by just making them stunned etc...
It seems to me vindics aren't that good because you just have to bypass their AV to stop them to fire. But with this, you can never stop them firing, and it is not THAT expensive so, why don't more players plays it ?

I'm not speaking about tournaments etc... But even reading battle reports on the net, I never saw it.

What am I missing ? Cover saves ?

I agree that it looks fun and not bad on a casual level.

The things keeping me from fielding it:
Points. If I’m doing a Gladius list, even just a basic demi-co and and aux, it eats up a chunk of points. Two vinds and a WW (as you suggest) plus the techmarine is going to be around 400 points. So you could get a bare-bones company and it in a 1k game, or a more robust company in a 1,500. But there is not a lot of space for other things. Tight, but doable. In general I’d rather be spending my points on 1st/10th company TFs.

Models. I’ve been collecting for decades, but didn’t have enough tanks to field it. SM tanks have been “meh” for a while now, and pricy. People who do have large collection of rhino hulls might have been taking their WWs/preds and fielding them as razors for the full company formation. I recently finished painting my vindi, have my old pred, and will proxy my hunter as a WW once it gets paint. So this restriction will soon be gone for me.

Vehicles have a number of problems in today’s game. The competitive aspect might be holding people back.
Other formations. If you want to get WWs on the table, for example, you might go with the suppression force instead.

Good point about the collection.
I haven't enough vehicles, neither my friend, to field this formation.

I take an Armored Task Force all the time - it's great! Helped me place 2nd in am ITC tournament this past weekend.

Usually I take 2 individual Predators with Lascannon and a Whirlwind squadron of 3. At the recent tournament I took a Lascannon Predator, 2 individual Vindicators, and a Thunderfire cannon, which worked out well.

Vindicators and Whirlwinds are super good, as there's so many things they can threaten, either due to hitting power (Vindicators) or range (Whirlwinds). Predators are less powerful, but if you're already taking some long range anti-tank guns, like in a Devastator squad, they can thicken your firepower and push it from 'effective' to 'decisive.'

Sometimes I even take a full Predator squadron, with two Lascannon-armed ones and a Autocannon/ Heavy Bolter one to act as a stalking horse, hug cover, and absorb incoming shots. I pair the Predators with two Vindicators, load them all on one flank, and overwhelm the enemy's anti-tank guns. It's not the most effective thing in the world, but it works well enough.

Madness is however an affliction which in war carries with it the advantage of surprise - Winston Churchill
