Bounding Assault Marine

So, I've had an Ultramarines army forever, that I'm in the process of modernizing/ remastering, whatever you want to call it. I've always loved just the basic infantry element of Space Marines, and most of my model collection is just that. Since getting it back on the table I've had trouble winning (to be expected for the first bunch of games, I know...) and until the new Codex came out I was really starting to doubt that be able to win if I I kept going that direction. The Battle Company formation got me really excited, and I thought all the freebies (transports) could really give me an edge if I went Airbourne/ Mech Infantry. This exited me from a narrative standpoint as well; the idea of harnessing the power of that basic marine.

The FLGS in my area runs a campaign/ tourney once or twice a year at 1250 pts though. I've tinkered with some lists, and I've found I can just barely squeeze it in. I get a lot of bodies, but I don't know if it packs the punch I'll need to win. I'm working towards an army that I can play with two subtle variations: One that emphasizes the Drop pod assault a little more, and one that focuses more on Lascannon redundancy (at the expense of almost all other upgrades).

Which of these lists is going to be more effective? Am I on the right track with either? If so, any tips on how to get the most of these lists? The prerequisites for the Formation eat up a lot of the 1250 points, but is there a better way to spend the points that remain?
