Subject: Starting 30k, what books should I get to play Traitor Son's of Horus?

Hey guys,
I am looking at getting into 30k. My regular opponent is a staunch Ultrasmurf player, so I am going traitor to start. Angron is my favorite primarch, but I hate the Heresy-era World Eater color scheme.
Horus is a close second, and I love the jade green of Heresy Era SoH, so I think I will focus on starting them.
My main source of confusion is with the books from Forgeworld. I cant find a definitive answer as to what books I should get to play SoH. I know they start in book 1, but also have read there are updates/more units
in the later books. Then there are also the red books with the overall lists. This wouldnt be such an issue if the books didnt cost an arm and a leg.
Any insight into this would be appreciated.

there are 2 red books: crusade list and legions, get those. Those are the only 2 books you need and they are cheaper then modern codex prices each (32 GBP/~45 USD).

I see. So that means the legions book is basically a compendium of all the rules from the prior set of books then?
That would make more sense. Upon more research, that book looks like a more recent release, might be why I was getting conflicting info.

it's like this:
the numbered, big, black books are mostly fluff, and contain rules for when said book was released ( each book typically adding more info)
the red books are "current" (the crusade list book is a bit out of date and should be updated soon, though the legion red book is brand new) and contain all of the rules from the black books, and very little fluff.

Back to something said in the first post, re: World Eaters:
Do you mean the blue-and-white pre-heresy colours or the (blood-)red-and-white mid-heresy scheme?
