I am new to 40k and am starting up an ork army, my local game store has monthly tournaments, which don't allow for any formations so keep that in mind when giving advice, I would like to put together a list which I could bring and not get crushed with. I like the idea of running a bunch of boyz across the field in transports, so this is the list I have come up with. I would really like some feedback as I have never played a game of 40k and have no idea if the units I chose are any good.

+++ Orks +++

Painboy
Painboy
Warboss with eavy armor, Da Lucky Stikk, and PK

+ Elites +

Tankbusta:
10x Tankbusta in a Trukk
10x Tankbusta in a Trukk
10x Tankbusta in a Trukk

+ Troops (690pts) +

18 slugga boyz wit eavy armor and nob with PK and BP
18 slugga boyz wit eavy armor and nob with PK and BP
18 slugga boyz wit eavy armor and nob with PK and BP

+ Heavy Support +

Battlewagon, Reinforced Ram
Battlewagon, Reinforced Ram
Battlewagon, Reinforced Ram, Zzap gun

++ Fortifications and Stronghold Assault ++

Void shield generator x3 shields

Thanks in advance for any advice it's appreciated, I don't want to make the mistake of buying and painting models that won't play well. Also Is it better to drop the wagons and go for smaller units in trukks?

All these units play you can buy and paint them without a doubt.

Your list is very straight forward but still competitive for most of games.
You might have lack of HTH power (only 4 PK) but later you can fix it by buying Meganobs and a megaboss/Ghazghull.

Take Rokkit Lanchas instead of Zzap gun for Battlewagons and also for all trukks.

And ‘eavy armor is not very effective for boyz so I’d get rid of it and take more boyz and some Deffkoptas. Also you could add a small Mek to take challenge instead of your Warboss.

I like this list, and I think it should actually do pretty well. But from my experience running 3 battlewagons and bustas in trukks, I have a few recomendations. However I also recommend people to take advice they got on the internet with a grain of salt and always tell people to play what makes sense to them.

I would take a couple of big shootas or rokkit launchas on the battlewagons. If they get shot and get hit with a weapon destroyed result, they lose another hull point. So its good to have a weapon there for that. I wouldnt bother with the zzap gun. but again, if you really like the zzap gun and want to try it out, by all means give it a go.

Tankbustas probably dont need 10 in each trukk. 5 or 6 in a trukk can be good, and make sure to always give them 3 bomb squigs. They are really one of the most cost efficient items in the Ork codex. A shooting attack that hits on a 2+? for an ork?! I'll take it.

With some of those extra points you should look to take a couple deff koptas. especially if you are playing maelstrom objectives in a tournament. These koptas can jump around and take objectives when you need them. But make sure to keep them hidden and out of line of sight until you need them.

I also like having a unit of outflanking warbuggies with rokkit launchas. They are great not only for coming in and getting rear/side armor on vehicles, but since s8 ap3, these buggies can put a hurting on some elite infantry as well.

Good, but no bikers?

I'm not an Ork player but I hate them and they get loads of focus fire.

My personal most hated build is basically 10 + nob bikers with a Warboss and pain boy all on bikes but hugging a AV14 transport with a mek boy with the 4+ powerfield from the ghazkull supplement.

The field means that it is distance from the vehicle.

Other than that with night fighting they are 2+/4++ on first turn plus 5+ fnp.

The rest of the army can be just boys in trukks.

That for me is the most fierce thing in the Ork armoury

I would put the warboss in with the MANZ and give him megga armor as well. TLS with mega armor is bonkers good and having the feel no pain from grotsik/pain boy is a must.

You should take a couple meks to take challenges so your warboss or grotzik doesn't get challenged out and die before he gets to swing.

As in, the field projects from the vehicle? If so, your ork players missed the update with the KFF and MFF rules. If they are embarked on a vehicle, the force field only effects the vehicle. It doesn't get the 6" bubble like it would on foot.

Putting the big Mek on a bike solves this.

^^^I believe the MFF is no longer allowed either.

I like your list! Very well balanced. I would just point out your warboss is striking last in combat and only has a 4+ save, no invuln, no FNP. He's going to be the first one targetted in CC. The lucky stikk is kind of a waste with such a poor armour save, leaving it mostly for offense, which an attack squig would do the same thing for. Maybe put him with the MANz and Doc Gris for FNP at least (The +d3 attacks from the Doc's rampage on your list's most power CC character is a good bonus too). Consider dropping the stikk and the klaw for the headchoppa+attack squig, which would allow him to strike first in most combats, re-roll to hits, and give him rending+instant death on his wound rolls, or dropping the klaw, eavy armour, and the extra tankbusta from the 6 man squad to give him Mega Armour so he has that 2+ re rollable save + FNP so he can get his strikes in.

Sorry to bump, but for the sake of correctness.

Orkimedies relics are only allowed within W!G formations or the detachment. Both options are extremely point heavy. It's a big nerf to all the relics on that list, MFF isn't really viable in sub 2k point games anymore. The MMF is still allowed, it's just very restricted. GW memed on orks big time with the new supplement.

Personally I would take out the void shield generator and use the points saved to use gun wagons instead of trucks. the 13 front armour is so pesky, your opponent wont be able to do ANY damage to you. Recently went 3 and 2 at a tournament with a similar list using all gun wagons and should have won the last game but I made a stupid mistake that cost me the game by 1 point on the last turn which was no fault of the list, so ill take a moral 4-1 with the list haha
