Today I picked up escape from goblin town from a store going out of business. I have looked at this so many times so decided to pull the trigger. I am mainly looking to play scenarios as I have other skirmish games. If skirmish is really good I may give it a go but that isn't the original intention. Anyways, I was thinking about the big book I read somewhere that there's a bunch of minis to buy for the scenarios. Is there a list anywhere of what you would all need to get for those? Is there any other expansions anyone would recommend

To clarify, do you want to play all the scenarios in the core book that follow the plot of the movie Unexpected Journey?

If so you will need -
- Bilbo
- Gandalf the Grey
- Radagast the Brown
- Thorin's Company
- Gwaihir
- 4 Great Eagles
- the Trolls
- Azog
- Fimbul
- Narzug
- 12 Hunter Orcs on Fell Wargs
- some Hunter Orcs on foot to use as dismounts
- 12 Fell Wargs
- the Goblin King
- Grinnah
- the Goblin Scribe
- 36 Goblin Warriors
Automatically Appended Next Post: Not sure what you mean here BUT the core book only covers the first of three Hobbit movies. GW published another book each for Desolation of Smaug and Battle of Five Armies. The DoS book is now OOP but may be reprinted in coming months. The Bo5A book was packaged along with an issue of White Dwarf and released as a free PDF:

Might be a good idea to pick them up while they still have a couple.

Do you mean the Moria and Angmar sourcebook? Pretty worth getting IMO - depends on if you want to play this as a pick-up game or just for scenarios. Thor0298 wrote:I guess the last question Is is it worth hunting all that down or just stick with the starter
Only you can answer that one. My advice would be, assemble the starter figures and play through the Escape from Goblin Town scenario. If you like the game, you can consider building forces for another scenario and so forth. Thor0298 wrote:Does bilbos or thorins load outs matter? I was assembling last night and saw the two choices but didn't see different stats IIRC none of the scenarios mention variant equipment for any characters. But I would guess the scenarios had in mind the stats from the core book (as opposed to the Champions of Erebor version of Thorin, for example).

Mordor is the only one currently in print -- although that may change soon. The others are going for way over retail on ebay, especially Kingdoms of Men and Free Peoples. I have been looking for a copy of Free Peoples for a while now but the prices are just too silly.

I assembled it last night and today. Having a buddy over on Saturday to start playing. I've played a small amount of 40k and a lot of AOS. I do really like the narrative playing when I play AOS. Battle plans/scenarios. I've been looking at lotr for a long time since I like the property too. I was just trying to figure it what I should pick up if anything before the flgs goes out of business on sunday

If the discount is good, I'd say go for it.

Well, you won't find that discount anywhere else, so if there's something you want grab it!
If you're looking to play non-scenario points-based games, this would be a good opportunity to grab the core of your army; a couple of boxes of plastic troops and a hero or two if they have them will get you started for pretty much any army of choice. What's more, the alliance rules are pretty loose, so if you fancy building a small elven contingent to add into a Rohan force, or throwing some Dwarves in with your Gondor army, again this would be a nice way to make you collection go a little further.
If you want any advice on where to start for a points-based army, let us know!

There's currently someone selling a complete set of all five army books on fleabay for the low, low price of $350!

I have moria and angmar in the swap shop and I am sure I have seen the others between here and "the one ring" and they are going pretty reasonable if you are looking for books, check there.
