Firstly, thanks for letting me join the great community you seem to have going here.

So the last time I played a game of 40K or purchased any models was in 2003 during the Eye of Terror campaign. Used to play as a home brew Space Marine chapter with a truly horrible colour scheme (basically every colour that came in the starting paint set was chucked on with no rhyme or reason) and the Imperial Guard.

I'm really tempted to get back into the hobby, starting from scratch, but I have a few issues with the company GW has apparently become in the last 13 years and the general landscape of 40K. I have written a somewhat lengthy post, seeking advice on this issue, but given it's pretty specific to 40K I wasn't sure if I should post it here on in the General 40K forum. Any advice you can give this hopeless n00b is appreciated.

Hello Helratio, welcome to the Dakka!

It's good that you are considering coming back to 40K. I took a brief hiatus from it for three years because of the accursed Chaos Boon Table. I try not to judge GW as a company and instead enjoy whatever they have to offer. I'm curious as to what army you might be playing. Cheers!

Thanks for the kind welcome. I'm planning to go either Ultramarines or Space Wolves as my first army. For two reasons: a) Space Marines are an easy army to collect/paint and b) I like to play the "good guys". I know 40K doesn't really have good guys, but those chapters seem to be among the nicer of the Emperor's servants.

Once the SM are up and running, I think I'll go for a Tau Farsight army. Farsight seems to be one of the more honourable people of the 41st millennium and I absolutely love the more streamlined look of the Tau.

I guess the short version of my fears with getting back into the game is GW dropping a chemical bomb on 40K like they did with Fantasy. I would hate to have bought rule books, codexes, models, paints, etc. just to be told I can't use anything in my army after the next update is released. I guess I'm wondering if I should jump back in now or wait until the "end times" rumours have led to a bit more concrete information on the future of the game.

As far as I know the "good guys" of the SM is the Salamanders chapter, and the only other race I can think about that is "good" is indeed the Tau. I'd go for the Farsight Enclave, those battlesuits would look pretty sweet!

Like you I am concerned with the "bomb" that GW may drop on 40K. I used to play CSM before moving on to Khorne Daemonkin, which finally freed me from the accursed Chaos Boon Table (I swear, Slaanesh hated me while Tzeentch and Nurgle liked to mess with my rolls). Good luck with the army!

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
