Truthfully, there's a really easy guide:

Do you have a box of models or a character? Do you have the 4 page rules(that GW stores give away for free) and the Warscroll for said box of models or character?

If so--congrats! You can play a game.

Very cool.
May I recommend you consider adding Realms of Conflicts episode 2 for AoS to your guide?
It shows how the game plays using the starter armies from the box, using the battalion rules and scenario from the back of the core book.

It's very good for getting across the relatively good balance of the starter for folks who go that route and it showcases how the rules are NOT gak, after all.

Thanks! Actually it went so good that my 40K models might take a little break. I think I like the AoS system much better than 7 Ed. Bought some VC units while I was there after the match doing a few hours of browsing.
