Subject: How/where do you store excess board games?

So, I've only recently gotten into board games. For the past 5~6 years, I had played/purchased maybe 1 board game a year, but the past 6~8 months I've been gradually buying more and more board games, up to about 45~50 currently.
I'm running out of room in my apt to put these games! Well, I'm not running out, I AM out of room! I'm currently at about ~15 big box games just sitting on my floor, so I've decided to not buy any big box games and just buy small box, but that still doesn't help me, since they'll be taking up space, just at a slower pace. And I'm not sure I have the discipline to avoid all big box games forever (looking at you New York: 1901, Fire & Axe, Forbidden Stars...others...).
I guess I'm just looking for advice on how to address this space issue. As a newcomer to the board game hobby, I'm not sure if there's maybe some advice or input out there to help someone overwhelmed by boxes in their apt? I don't want to put them in my storage garage and have thought about putting them in my local FLGS's storage closet I have access to. But I'd rather have direct access to them at my home. Should I take a break in purchasing any more until I figure this out? My current shelf space is occupied by movies, comics, and textbooks/novels. I can clear some space on those, but it'd be a weekend-long project and I just don't feel up for it as I like my movies, comics, and textbooks/novels...
Thanks!

Under bits of furniture like beds, sofas etc is where mine end up (and if space is a real issue see if any expansions you have might fit in the main box, even if it means dumping their box although it's something i'd hate doing) (i'd advise against storing stuff at a FLGS no matter how much you like the place unless you or they have insurance that will actually cover things if they get lost/damaged/stolen as commercial spaces are much, much more prone to that sort of disaster than your own place)

Some of mine are filed into book cases but most of them, especially the big box items like Twilight Imperium III are stached in my attic. It's not the best environment, as it gets hot in summer and cold in winter, but at least it's sheltered from sun and rain, etc. The cellar would be a better choice but it's already full of other stuff.
A long time ago I stored a lot of games and books in my garden shed and they were eaten by snails.

I store my games in the storage space under my coffee table and in my entertainment centre cabinet where all the electronics I don't have are supposed to go.

That sounds horrible lol.
I realized I have slightly more space than I remembered and I think I will take a trip to storage for some of my other hobby stuff. I'll figure this out. I still plan to buy more big box games, though probably just at a much slower rate...
Thanks for the ideas everyone!

We typically have questions like this on BoardGameGeek's General forum. Do a search first.
(The answer seems to be getting a wife, but I hope you find one that lets you keep your games...)

Get some bookshelves from walmart, and stack the boxes on the shelves. You should be able to get 40-50 descent 2nd edition/zombicide boxes in a large bookshelf like that. You can stack the rest on top of the bookshelf. This also makes game selection easy and is a nice display of your collection.

Skip buying for the moment and get a storage solution figured..
(not sure how much space you have but here are a few ideas)
Storage benches by your playing table..swap coffee table for large trunk ..Stack of Fliptop storage containers ..cheap heavy shelving from big box store ..Closet storage units ..more books cases ..Buy a house ...

I just bought an old clear fronted cupboard from the days of VHS and store them all in there. Keeps the critters and dust out, and looks quite tidy.

I have 3 large IKEA cabinets in my basement that is full of board games, 40k stuff, and RPG books. Edit: in the past, I've used storage trunks and cheap book cases from WalMart.
