I am trying to decide if I should get a Lightning fighter or a thunderbolt from FW for air superiority and seconded as an AtG flyer. But I am unsure witch I want or if I need to try and get multiples of one. or if I should look at another bird entirely!
I like how zippy the lightning can be but I feel that they are almost to fragile, and the thunderbolt has more staying power but I don't ever really see them. If anyone has them or plays VS them often I would love feed back on how they do and good load outs for there hard points.

in my opinion i would go for a thunderbolt but that is probably just because i prefer slow and steady to fast and fragile,

Depends on what else you are running I think. Do you have other AA options? if so do you need a dedicated air superiority fighter? If not, then other ground attack options exist.
No point on overloading in AA ability if you can find it elsehwere or dont face flyer heavy opponents?

I'll suggest a wildcard option -- the Marauder Destroyer as both your Flyer and LOW.

The Psychological impact of that thing is ridiculous, your opponent will move heaven and earth to stay out of its way and dedicate inordinate amounts of firepower to take it down.

For me, it's never even come close to killing its points cost but that doesn't matter... I just love how it makes my opponent react and play differently. I've never seen such a reaction from any other unit, even riptides/wraithknights etc.

Plus you get cool points for having such a rare LOW.

Unlike its incredibly powerful 30k incarnation, the 40k Lightning is quite weak. The Thunderbolt seems more reliable.

The best FW flyer is the Vulture with punisher cannons, cheap in pts and devestating; Note that the Thunderbolt is a older kit, the windshield frame does not have windows, you'll have to self cut out some clear plastic(duralar) and fit them in.

Another vote for the Vulture with punisher cannons. Although you can equip a vulture in quite a few ways. I would like to try it with the TL lascannon with 6 HK missiles.

How many points is the vulture? Either layout, LC w HKS or punisher cannon. I've been thinking about adding an AD of guard to bring in some Imperial Navy.


BTW I'd pay to play against IG with a Marauder Destroyer. The coolest lookin LOW IMO.

Per IA1(2E), a Vulture with twin-linked Punisher Gatling Cannons is 155 points before any other upgrades...I really have a hard time getting motivated to build mine for that reason.
