Just a quick question for you guys. I'm currently playing the DKOK Grenadier Assault Brigade list, using 7x Chimeras, 2x LR Variants and a Avenger Strike Fighter. However I keep hearing from opponents and other players that I need to try out the Emperors Fist Armored Company. Looks like a cool formation, but i have no experience with it. What has been the best way and what Varients for you use when running this? And do the follow the same rules as a Squadron or are they seperate and able to shoot at different targets from the get go. Appreciate the help.

You need minimum 5 LRs, two of which compose the tank commander and 3 squadrons to act as free agents. you have 4 squadrons in total which can all engage autonomously, and get some benefits from close proximity.

The absolute cheapest you can do this is 630 pts which would give you 5 plates of s6 ap4 ignores cover. This is actually a fairly decent setup, but you'd be better served with equivalent points in Wyverns for the same targets.

The problem with the formation is that in anything less than 3k you're essentially building your army on the backs of a powerful but inflexible platform. The rest of your army absolutely has to be built around maximising the Russ investement, which can be done and done well but it's very limiting.

I personally use a 12-1300 point formation only in 2k+ games. My typical setup is a full squadron of Eradicators with plasma sponsons (to maximise the saves caused through blast attacks), two separate Demolishers for critical threat removal and either double vanquisher in the tank commander squadron or double punisher according to wether or not I want to throw in air support for dedicated anti-armour.

The significant consequence of the formation is multple tanks at BS 4, so to make the most of it you have to move away from the greatest strength of the russes i.e. BLAST WEAPONS EVERYWHERE and shift to direct fire.

The other benefits of the formation are merely 'nice'. If you're going to take 5 leman russes by all means use the formation, but if you don't already *want* 5 leman russes then the formation won't convince you to get them.

Some people find the idea that other people can be happy offensive, and will prefer causing harm to self improvement.
