Starting 40k again after a 2.5 year break. Finally going with SW's as I have always had an interest in them. The new wulfen and formations sounds fun so I am taking a stab at using some of the new rules. I need help refining my list as I really dont want to purchase models and build them a certain way only to change my mind a week later. I will playtest them a bit before I do that but was hoping for some Dakka feedback first.

The idea here is the blood claws would ride in the stormwolf if I wanted them too, or run a screen for a wulfen squad while the 2nd wulfen squad followed the thunderwolves. My worry is podding in my grey hunters, will the rest of my army be supported enough while the reinforcements come in?

I was highly interested in the Blackmanes for the free pods, but couldn't get a list together I felt was competitive. Being competitive isn't my #1 goal but I do like to go to tournaments so that is my aim, to not suck. Please tell me your thoughts!!

First few things I would mention are the weapons. Frost axe on the TWC just seems inefficient to me as for 5 points more you can take a power fist, get shred at initiative with a wolf claw (still have shred), or cut points for a power axe. On the Lord either a Fist or Black Death and you need 2+ armor.

I would recommend replacing the missiles with 4 lascannons. +1 str and AP2 is huge for vehicle hunting. You can actually penetrate AV14 with a lascannon but the same cannot be said of a missile launcher. +1 on the damage table means your more likely to take a vehicle out of commission.

The Grey Hunters are just sorta meh imo. 1 melta is hardly a huge threat but your sinking 115 points into a single melta shot that has maybe 60% chance to hit and penetrate a vehicle with that chance going into the gutter when the enemy jinks or is sitting in cover. Plasma guns are the better weapon for them as at least the bolter weapons aren't completely wasted shooting at something with a toughness value. MSU pod units would be better in the Blackmanes formation where that drop pod point sink isn't a factor for a 5 man unit.

I will say the pods and fast attackers like TWC are going to draw heat away from the Wulfen who hopefully can slog up the field in one piece to join in the frey. Sadly I don't think their aura is going to be giving much benefit with only the TWC being there to get the buff until the wulfen move up into range of the Grey Hunters. I'm almost tempted to say put a unit of Wulfen in the flyer so your almost guaranteed for them to arrive. Run the blood claws (split into 2 units maybe) up the field with the Wulfen.

Thanks for the feedback, do you think I should drop the pods altogether and go with razors?

naturally if I did that I need to free up some points somewhere though..

• throw a wolf claw on the Lord to use his I5 and massive attacks, shred allowing you a chance to land some 6's for rending.

• go wolf claws on the TWC and if facing absurd amounts of 2+ beyond what rending will chew through, shoot them instead with your plasma.

• I'd personally get those wulfen in pods, have them both land turn 1. Put them dangerously close and make your opponent make hard decisions.

I thought about podding one of the wulfen. I was worried if I did both I couldnt get my TWC across the board in 1 turn potentially, which I really want to try and do.

I made a few modifications to the list to play around, one being dropping the stormwolf and adding a second squad of longfangs, but with missles. This freed up some points to add the 2+ armor on the wolf lord and change up the weapon loadouts on the TWC.

I like the idea of the claws on the lord to take advantage of his I5. That leaves me with 1 fist in the lord's TWC squad though. Is that enough? If I had the points I really wanted to add in an Iron priest on TWC since he comes with a hammer, and throw some wolves in there as wound soakers. But I simply dont know where I would get the points from for all that without completely changing up the entire list and doing a different formation.

so many choices!!!
