Subject: GMG Video Battle Report - Ogres vs. Forces of the Abyss - 1500pts - Dominate!
Heavy Cavalry: Kaisenor Lancers, Heavier Cavalry: Ancients on Rhinosaurs, Light Infantry: Ghekkota Warriors, standard infantry: Ancients, I think? Lots of infantry options.

Fire Drake? Isn't that a dragon?
I guess I'll have to find wings for it :/
Might get into KoW then. After AoS happened I'm now out of a fantasy wargame with mass ranks.
The fact that I can just use my existing collection makes it even more appealing, though I may add some proper KoW models.

Nope. Fire Drake is a fire breathing tyrannosaur. You can have a winged one for more dragonny if you spend the extra points.
Also, Riverguard would have to be taken as allies as they are part of the Neritica army, not Salamanders (though units of frogs who can jump over enemy units and terrain are pretty funky).
I use my Slann mage priest as a Komodon (living artillery piece - he sits at the back and lobs fireballs at long range). With KoW using fixed unit sizes it is just as easy to use one to help bulk out a lizard regiment into a horde.
I have 3 KoW armies now and all three were WHFB armies I used to take to the grand tournaments.

And the good thing is that KoW gives you such leeway with model choice, you don't have to have strict 1:1 substitutes with WFB stuff. Your KoW Fire Drake could just as easily be one of those big beasties from the new AoS Dwarfs, for example, instead of a Carnosaur.
Have fun with it. It's one of the least rigid systems with regard to model choice out there.

I've been wondering about that; is there some official ruling that you can use whatever model, as long as its on the right base and has the right scale?
That makes mantic an unusual company in that respect, doesn't it?

No official ruling either way in the books, though Mantic has repeatedly said that gamers should be free to use whatever models they like, and Mantic uses a variety of manufacturer's miniatures in the rulebook and Uncharted Empires. As lng as it is on the correct base size, you're fine. There's even language in the rulebook giving you some leeway there, saying to use the smallest base you can if the model you're using is especially large and won't fit onto it's standard base size.
It's unusual if you're used to GW and PP. There's actually a lot of rulesets outside of those companies that allow or even promote use of whatever models you wish, such as Song of Blades and Heroes, Frostgrave, Rogue Planet and lots of Historicals.

You can also take Allies for models that you want, but don't quite fit the list.
As a Good army, the Salamanders can take the Neutral Forces of Nature as allies, opening up some fun exchanges.

The reason I bought rules and became a real wargamer was because I wanted a properly thought out structure to govern the action instead of just making things up as I went along.
