I think I found a great deal, and I bought myself the Chaos Dreadhold Helfort. I have no idea what to colour it or why. Reason I am not asking in the painting section is because I want the fluff reasons why to paint it. Right now since I have no idea, I might just do what GW did or at least try something like that. Question is, is there a fluff reason why it's done?

What colour should I paint the skulls? I saw someone paint skulls gold once. I am curious is there a fluff reason for doing this, or just Rule of Cool?

I tried googling it but don't see anything but GW stuff and pics. Does anyone have a link for what or how someone painted their Helfort? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

The first question to ask is probably which Chaos God was the hellfort built in honour of? That should help decide what sort of colour scheme you go for :-)

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

The hellfort isn't a specific named item any more than 'Daemon Prince' or 'Chaos Warrior'.
It's a class of building, so there's no reason you have to paint it XYZ.
So the fluff reason is what you want it to be, as Bottle says.

I can show you mine, but I am not sure it will help much, as I used the same scheme GW suggested when it was first released...

Somewhere in south-central England.

Black always looks pretty Chaotic, as seen above, or you could go all Khorne all the time and do it a deep sandstone red with gold skulls and spikes.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Mine is:

The stonework is grey with a blue glaze over it. The main metal parts are black iron highlighted with white.

I use bronze for the leering faces and gold for the tower spikes.

If your going to paint it thematically then you would want to consider:

-Which Chaos God your Dreadhold honors.

-Which Realm its in. If your Dreadhold is supposed to be in the Realm of Fire then it would have more red/warmer tones. Realm of Metal would have more metallic. In one of the fluff books the Stormcasts assaulted a fort with walls made of bronze skulls.

Or you can go more generic with black/grey stonework, bone skulls, and choice of metal work.

Thank you everyone for your help. I can't think of any Chaos god yet, so maybe Khorne so it goes with the guys in Age of Sigmar box set.

I think I will do what MongomoosMatt did and just copy the box.

Again, thanks for the comments, I appreciate all the help you gave me.
