Hi all, with my 30k army taking shape, I've managed to get one of my old 40k friends to take an interest in his Tyranids again (last time either of us played was pre 2013). As such, I would love to get him involved in some games against a Legion army, and have it so that it would be at least fun for both sides, and not a tabling out of the gates.

I've been looking around and google hasn't turned up much in the way of rule sets that work to incorporate 40k armies (especially Tyranids) into HH games, and was wondering if anyone had any resources they've used for trying to make fun games with mixing of these kinds of armies. I know some people have in the past made campaigns with The Megarachnids from the early HH novels, but have these been successful for anyone, and is there a particularly good set of rules that people have used, that would allow the use of some of Forgeworld's more monstrous creatures?

Any pointers, links to rules sets, or general rule changes people have found useful would be fantastic to get me on the way.

Thanks!

well, the general concepts of 40k vs. 30k that FW gave out were:

both sides use the 30k CAD and force limits (no LoW's under 2k, 25% rule, only troops score (i'd give warriors and raveners implacable advance), no formations (though I would probably limit him to 1 formation since 'nids are pretty week ATM) allow him to field up to double the normal maximum unit size (i.e.60-strong squads of 'gaunts ) These apply to basically every 40k army and it makes the game a bit better imo (tones down the stronger armies while not really hurting the weaker ones, making the playing field a bit more level)

The megarachnids aren't actually in the rules, so nids are just a rough approximation. if you want to fluff in nids just go with them representing non-humanoid xenos races that were purged

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

In friendly games don't take Volkites against him, these are death on wheels to anything with worse than a 3+ save, other than that the above post covers it well.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies!

Well that seems to really make it nice and simple, we're both not interested in making it a one sided battle either way so I wouldn't be playing very cheesy lists and neither would he, we're both interested in fluff and/or themed armies (full flying tyranids etc)

That should make things nice and simple. Hopefully we'll get a few games in and make any smaller changes but that should put us on the right path!

Thanks, any more tips/tricks people have found feel free to let me know.

Also... 60 gaunts in a single unit.... that's pretty cool

I would also allow the nid player more points, if you want to play fluffy that is.

After all a marine army would come under attack from an entire swarm, so might be an idea of see how long can hold out against a superior points army?

Have done this a few times with 40K and can be pretty fun

You could also put the eternal swarm rules in effect. Allow their volkites to kill massive numbers of figures ... they just keep coming back.
