Hey everyone. I have been stuck in a silly decision lately. First, let me say I fund my gaming hobby via ebay. My wife doesn't like seeing cash go from our actual bank account. That being said, I have limited funds and time to game. I can usually game Tue-Fri 12noon-245pm.

I had been thinking of Halo Ground Command (HgC) http://shop.spartangames.co.uk/SearchResults.asp?Cat=2107 because you can get the starter game for under $90! That's two 1k armies, rulebook, dice, etc... A complete game with all you need! Then they will release dozens of add ons monthly, from $9.99 to $99.99 and other supplements and armies... I am a big Halo fan, I have and still game all the Halo games. I like the scale and the fact it will be easy to transport and have quick games. Easy to paint. However, there is no place to game in my area!

Now with 40k, I was thinking Dark Angels or Tau because I could get my hands on a 2k DA Deathwing/Ravenwing army with codex for $200ish! All new on sprue (these are the Dark Vengeance minis btw), but playable. I like termies, although I hear they aren't too good in the 7th edition. But with literally 5 Xbox & Pc games about 40k coming out this year (2 specifically termie themed), it motivates me to get back in the 40k scene after leaving during 5th edition. I like the Tau, 2k Farsight & the eight plus a few crisis and a few ghostkeels, running me $456 in total. No codexes though. Both these armies are small(ish) and can be fast games. AND there is a Games Workshop store 5 minutes away, where I have played before, and at least I would be able to game. Assembly, painting, and the larger scale makes this a little more time and space consuming however....

Anyone want to add there thoughts to ease my decision?

Update-

I stopped by the only other gaming store (A Comic Shop) today and the owner said they play Infinity and Star Wars and board and card games. No chance he is going to carry Spartan's Halo Ground Command.

I went to my GW store. I didn't realize I was out of this for over two years! Spoke to the same manager that was there two years ago. I didn't realize you could make an army just by mashing together different formations/cadres. He said there are tons of SM & DA players already. Tau are scarce there. One other person plays them. Thurs & Fri from 12-3 there are games going on.

Seems like I am going Tau.

I saw on you tube the new halo game "salute 2016" and i think
it looked quite poor (their fault) but the universe is ok and would be easier to paint. scenics would be a probem if you are doing buildings.
i done 5 armies and huge amount of scenics for 40k and still doing it..its a massive investment. Tau are good, ive got them and all the special eqipment make them an interesting army.
good luck and hope to see your work here sometime!!!!!!

I'm real excited for Halo GC. I like 15mm from my times of playing FOW, its more epic and grand scale. The models look great and their demo board looks great too. I will be getting it for sure.

When you say "A Comic Shop" you mean the place in Central Florida? Cause there are tons of other game shops in Central Florida.

Honestly play what you can get games of. I'm looking forwards to Halo:Ground Command myself but it will be a new game in a non standard outside of historicals scale being put out by a company with a less than stellar reputation for adequately supporting their games. I hope that it will be a success and overcomes these obstacles, but would be wary of buying in at release unless you can at least guarantee some other players(In addition to this I personally am waiting to hear more about pricing outside of the core set and some rules previews before deciding whether to spend the money.) The other issue with Halo:GC is that may not be coming out till August-September time which may affect your decision.

40k is what you should play if you definitely want to get some games in, but seriously don't worry about whether other people play your faction. It's a common trap for folks starting out, and it makes little to no difference when it comes to playing the game(and makes it easier to sell on units that you don't like.). If you can get a cheap and cheerful Dark Angels army and couldn't give a rats ass about being competitive just roll the cheapo Dark Vengeance and have fun thats what the hobbies about isn't it?
