I LOVE the BaC models, but I hate the Pre-Heresy DA scheme as you can only do so much painting black. I wanted to do a force of mk4 and earlier armor marks of Dark Angels who have just painted their armour green to distinguish themselves from the calabinate-luther traitors (the fallen). This would be set during the scouring era. I assume that large amounts of Mk6 and Mk7 will not have made it yet to the Dark Angels as they were a) far away from terra and Mars at the conclusion of the Heresy and b) dealing with events on Caliban and thus pre-occupied with more important things than supplying themselves a new armor mark. So far all I have found is that they painted their armour green after the caliban incident, which means that it would have been green throughout the scouring and thus a green DA force in mk4 armor would be cannon. Thoughts on this Dakka?

Is this more the issue that you want to be able to paint your mk4 armour green?
If so go ahead, the phasing in and out of new/old armour types was slow and not universal so they would almost without doubt had many different armour marks in use at the same time and therefore painted green.

Unless there's been a retcon I've missed the Dark Angel fleet was only hours away from Terra when the Emperor slew Horus, so I imagine they would have had a fairly decent supply of Mk6 & 7 before the Terra and surrounding sectors was secure.
That said Mk6 & 7 issue would have been prioritised for units using Mk2 & 5. Units lucky enough to still have functional Mk4 would likely retain it.
How/when they changed their colours is trickier..

During the Second Founding.
Ravenwing stayed black then.
Deathwing didn't become white for thousands of more years though.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."
This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Would you happen to have a source for this? I would love to confirm it.

They might not have taken years to repaint their armor. How long could it take to repaint a suit of power armor (or, even a Land Raider)? A typical military organization would release the specs, and announce a date to make the change. But, who knows? I do know I don't paint any models colors I don't like.

According to the Cypher dataslate, it's implied that one faction of those fighting on Caliban had repainted their armour green to distinguish themselves from their opponents (as in, before the Lion's fleet ever arrived).
We don't yet know exactly what the factions were - it's invariably not going to be just as simple as 'loyalist' and 'traitor', but whatever they were, that would imply they were the faction that 'won' and subsequently formed the basis of the unforgiven chapters.
For any 'heresy' battle, the armour would still most likely be black.
As to the Deathwing change, remember that the Tale Of Two Heads Talking is an instructive story told to neophytes about Dark Angels veterans coming home to find their homeworld corrupted in their absence and that the correct response is to spend your lives hunting down those responsible whatever your legal orders say.
I.e. it may well be ficticious propagandist bull-crap that's intended to instill the impressionable teenagers with a not-so-subtle euphemism for what really happened the battle of Caliban. The dark angels codices over the years mention quite a few other stories (albeit only by title) that apparently all have much the same plot just with names changed to protect the....errr.....I don't think I can seriously use the word 'innocent' here...

Dark angles painted the armor green after the destruction of caliban to symbolize the lush green forests it once had.
The Deathwing painted their armor white after defending one of their home worlds from a tyranid invasion they thought for sure would result in their death, but they managed to survive and continue the tradition to this day.
Raven wing stayed black because reasons I'm not sure. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also to add, you can do ALOT with black armor, in fact black is one of the more time consuming colors to paint.

Dark Angels are an ancient Chapter, so it would totally make sense for them to have Mk IV armour either in parts or in full suits. I'm mixing a set of the BaC models into my Crimson Fists and my Iron Warriors.
