I've been watching a couple battle report and of course it was hard to keep up on without knowing the rules, but this looks like a lot of fun. Can anyone give me their experiences with the hobbying aspect and with the actual gameplay? I'd really like to get into the hobbying of a full fleet and terrain to play with.

Also, are there any fighter squadrons or is it just large starships?

Personally, I love the game and fighter/bomber squadrons(SRS tokens) do have their part to play. Spartan has made the full rulebook available on their website as well as having recently uploaded consolidated fleet lists for each faction. I would download the rulebook and give it a perusal. If you find it still keeping your interest, pick up the Return of the Overseers battle box. It will give you an Aquan patrol fleet, Directorate Patrol fleet, scenery, rulebook, tokens and cards. Amazon Prime for about $120 or between 100-110 on eBay.

From a hobby perspective, the more recent models in boxes from the past couple years are quite nice and assemble/paint up quite well; some of the older ones in blisters have their issues, so just need to be careful when you see old stock..

Oh so they don't have fighter squadron models? I thought not. The game still looks like a lot of fun and I have a friend who can make really nice, hand-painted space-themed boards. I'm also really interested in Drop Zone Commander.

They're small (fighters) and large (bombers) resin tokens that have a raised image of the faction ship and an insert for a micro-die to show the strength of the formation.
