So I was thinking this probably constitutes a personal preference/rules thing as opposed to a painting thing, meaning I really hope I'm posting this in the right place.

Anyway, I've recently received three Imperial Knights, all of which I absolutely cannot wait to paint and field. I also thought it would be fun to have the Knights as my primary detachment once in a while, particularly making use of the Baronial Court. However, as the name implies, the Baronial Court is composed of a Baron and two basic knights...from the same house. Obviously, this is the same with all formations in the Knights codex. While I do enjoy many of my armies to be nice and uniform (unless I'm playing Chaos, because that's part of the fun), I feel that with something like the Knights, I would greatly prefer to make each one special and unique. Painting each Knight almost exactly the same, with the exception of the High Lord and Baron's stripes, just doesn't sound as appealing, to me.

I know there's really no formal rule against this, but I thought it would be best to ask some fellow players beforehand. Would you be okay with someone fielding Knights from three different Houses/groups (as an example, one from House Taranis, one from House Cadmus, and a Freeblade) in order to use the Baronial Court as long as they follow the requirements of the formation?

All responses are appreciated.

You can paint your knights in different colors and unite them in another plus decals. My knight household are from Hawkshroud, but they are painted differently to a point, but still look coherent when together.

Check my knight gallery for examples.

Just make the fluff of your "Baronial Court" a "Freeblade Warband", and say they are 2 Freeblade Knights being led by a third Knight. Its not like everyone who uses a say the Battle-Demi Company formation from Codex Space Marines is actually fielding the properly painted designated units from a Space Marine Company.

Basically that. Also I must note that since each knight would usually be a great hero already, there's nothing stopping you from just saying that each knight was allowed to have his own heraldry for some unspecified heroic deed from ages past.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.

Thanks for the ideas, guys!

Hmm...a Freeblade Warband sounds really cool, actually. I'm sure the people over at my FLGS will like that idea.
