Battle Barge Impossible Fortress

Hey, everyone. I am running events for a local hobby store in the US and we have a 40k "tournament" coming up. What I propose here might not be for everyone, but humor me and I try to offer some suggestions anyway. There is an overwhelming amount of support to play this event but we only have space for 10 players.

Anyway, here's the idea for the 1000pt event on May 28. As you read, keep in mind that there is no entry fee for this one.

Note: Everyone who plays events here at this store can just choose their Warlord Trait from the relevant Codex or the main book. They keep this trait all day. If your Warlord is fully painted and based to a reasonable tabletop standard (at the store-owner's discretion but with this group I never expect an issue there), you may re-roll a single d6 during the day.

The awards are as follows:

Best Warlord (Highest battle points, tournament winner, etc): Winning this tournament allows you to select an additional Warlord Trait every time you play at the store, including future tournaments.

Best Painted Warlord (judged by store owners and other painters in the store who do not play or even know the participants!): What should this prize be? Something from store? Gift card?

Sportsmanship award: Usual stuff.. but should this be a gift card for the store as well?

Best Themed Army: ?

The overall idea for this small 1000pt tournament is to encourage people to strive for things other than 1st place ALTHOUGH 1st place does give you a gaming benefit that you can use into the future but in my opinion it is not over powered.

Thoughts welcome. I mean, really- how much $ are those awards worth? Not to sound like a d***, but it's a free tournament so there should be no griping about that hehe

For a free event I wouldn't expect anything more than a certificate in honesty.

It's the 'future tourneys' that I think is slightly problematic. Even my store's regulars miss a month here and there. Plus, there's your book keeping ... might be as simple as a note book that stays under the counter next to the receipt tape. Plus, getting stuck with Night Fight expert is gonna nag whereas some other guy gets Conqueror of Cities or the 3 unit Infiltrate.

I like the add'l trait part, but I'd have the players roll again for each new game. That would eliminate the book keeping (a lot to do in addition to a TO's already heavy load).

Store cred & Gift Card amount to the same thing?

You might provide on-line guide lines.

A good idea to help cut-throat guys (like me) to balance out by giving the hobby aspect more love.
