So. Getting back into the hobby after many years off.
Going with the imperial fists since I just love the color and have always wanted to paint yellow.

My eyes fell on the Sternhammer Formation after some recommendations here on DakkaDakka and I really like the new rules.

The idea is to have a slightly mobile firebase with my Razorbacks and Centurions who will lay down good Anti Tank Fire.
Then, turn one, deep strike in the bulk of the army. 40 marines to be exact. A Skyhammer formation and some Tactical Marines with my Warlord. He also gives the entire army stubborn.
The bikes will harass and be a nuisance and will be amazing to paint since I will convert them from Dracothian Guard.

This strength of this army is it will have very accurate firepower, with most of the fire will be twin linked due to Superior Bolter Drill and twin linked Las Cannons. It will also give me a good alpha strike due to the drop pod and Skyhammer.
The heavy bolting Devastator squads will bring some tactical flexibility. Being twin linked and Tank Hunter will mean I can put a small dent in some medium tanks being strength 6 re roll to hit. This will also help a little against flyers.

The weakness is lack of close combat and weak/mediocre anti air. Any tweaks or tactical advice would be appreciated.

I am not sure how to kit my Centurions. Lascannons or Missile Launchers. With tank hunter the missiles will be at strenght 9 and also give more flexibility and a few points to spare, but tank hunting, twin linked las cannons is just brutal against tanks.

So, what do you guys think? I have not played a game in many years and my theories about the game might be off. Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm not that into optmizing nor playing but at least the people I see playing are used to have devastator squads of 5 marines in the skyhammer

Wait for better comments though

Yeah, I have noticed that as well that the usua setup is a 5 man squad with Grav Weapons.
The way I reason is that they are a glass cannon. those 5 marines cost 210 point. With this 10 man squad, I will make less damage against heavy targets but have a lot more staying power and also save 30 points.
Being the stern hammer formation. I can reroll against flyers as well and be strength 6 so what I lack in killing power, I make up for it with tactical flexibility and durability.

May I ask why are you strength 6 on your heavy bolters? Because tank hunter only allows rerolls to pen and the sternhammer gives +1 to pen against buildings. Am I missing something?

Aha, I thought it was +1 strength of the weapon, or rather +1 on the to pen roll. Too bad. Well I have not played in a long time so I might get a few rules wrong.

I have been thinking a little and what do you guys think about putting the captain in a razorback, and bumbing up the 9 man squad to 10 man and put them in a rhino?
