I am starting a new project i want to build a howling griffons force. I like the idea that badab war being space marine vs space marine, It force them to use more modern tactic like camouflage, special operation etc. I want this army to look more like a modern fighting unit than: knight in space.
I did some research on the net about this campaign but i could not find a lot. I would like to know what regiment where deployed, who exactly they where fighting, what kind of warfare was use and I guess Sigmar IV was a aride planet due to thier camo patern , but was there major cities, what color are the veterans helmet.
Anyway, every information will be welcome.
The only thing I found about the implication of the Howling griffon in the Badab war is: that since they where back from another campaign they where low on troop and gear (250 marine) they where used only for garrison and escorts duties.
While the where on garrison on a moons in the Khymara system, (a place that was supposed to be far from the fight) they where attack by a larger renegade force: the Executioner, During these battle The howling griffon use a night camouflage. They eventually suffer a 70% loss of their troop, Chaplain Dreadnought Titus (who i think was their leader) and a strike cruiser, to the hand of the secessionist force. The Executioner eventually withdraw and the remaining trooper(75 guys) decide to keep fighting until the where officially relieve 2 year later.
Another thing I know is that mostly member 4th company where present and maybe some part of the 6th and 10th.
Since there is no information on the Sigmar VI Insurgency and I want a army with a lot of fluff. I will make my own story about this campaign.
I like the idea that it happen after the disaster on Khymara. That the howling griffon I am making are the 75 survivor and that the insurgency take place during the 2 year they keep fighting. Since they are low on number low on gear, they must use guerrilla tactic, live in their tank, constantly hide, train and support local loyalist militia.
I really like the idea of them working a a small group of special forces using unconventional warfare, planning a insurgency against the renegade government of Sigmar VI and secessionist marine.
having fluff like that will help me finish the model give them general direction in the look.
I will use old rogue trader model for this army.
The first thing i did was found the right color scheme.here you can see the first two test. I will use the more yellow one scheme at the left(on the 2nd edition marine)
this is a land raider i bought for this army, right now its soaking in simple green.

Howling Griffons are probably my favourite loyalist Badab chapter. I'd love to see some use of the yellow and red quartered scheme, even if it is only on a shoulder pad, or something.

To answer your question about veteran helmets: If you are going to go with RT models, are you going to stick with RT markings? Because the helmet stripe is there for you! Solid color=trooper Alternating dashes-Veteran Main stripe bordered by secondary color=Sarge Border and Dash=Vet Sarge. Some examples from my collection, using BAs: No idea what the official FW answer is for what they use these days. 95% of my knowledge of the Badab war and it’s chapters is the old WD article back from the dawn of time. But good luck with this!

Was there anything on the sigmar IV campaign in these old WD. there is very little on the net. Automatically Appended Next Post: first squad, these will be my veterans. I will clean assemble and customise, the totality of the army. before painting so if you get some good idea for change, or new stuff go for it.
hope you like them.

Interesting conversion. Decided against the classic on the shoulder carry? Not that I blame you, it works for things like MLs and LCs, but shooting from the hip works a lot better for the HB.
Nice to see this come together, love the RTB01’s

I made this guy as a test, and turn out i really like it i think a want to make a squad of silenced bolter/knife using marine i think of using the howling griffon night ops camo
I want them to look like infiltration/assassination unit. I will probably give them eotech like holo-sight and other tacticool gear each will have customized weapon, maybe night vision goggle too. They will probably count as scout
what do you think?

Hi guys, I am missing some pieces and i really would like to get my hand on them, especially the rogue trader sponsons i need 2 of them, i need 2 back of oop whirlwind rocket, the radar for the whirlwind, 1 set of old school ram spike and also the muzzle tip and barrel for rogue trader predator. if you have any of these piece in your bits box please can you send me a pm. I really need the SPONSONS laser in particular, I can do without the rest but these are essential.
if i can't get rogue trader canon i already found a way to replace it but if i can use original part it would be best.

My tank so far. I had to do a lot of sanding an cleaning but now the are pretty clean. I still have to lower the front light on the one of the whirlwind and find the exact same 2 light for the other one(if you have a pair in you bits send me a pm). I still have a lot to do on them i want to put a lot of stowage, also detail like antenna, handle on the turret , sponsons on the predator,etc.. but still thing are getting done and this army is taking shape.

lets talk about rogue trader Bolter rifle. I like the look except one thing the magazine is too much in the front witch make no sense to have such a short barrel on a long rifle and also the what seem to be the ejection port is located further back so the mag really seem out of place
So i customize every Bolter by taking out the mag and replacing near the pistol grip. I also take out what seem to be the bayonet adapter.
on this pic i still have take out the old magwell and bayonet adapter
When i want to put bayonet, under barrel/Combi weapon, tactical fore grip or under-barrel chainsaw I use a small plastic rail to replace the bayonet adapter. i will use these rail a lot to do customization on my marine weapon.
I also use the Bolter pistol arm and modify them to use the rifle, it create a nice pose that look more ready to fire.
these modification are a little time consuming but I think its worth it.
What do you guy think ?
next time I will post about rogue trader bolter pistol what i do with them.

Yeah it's time consuming , when you add: weapon modification, mold line cleaning, barrel drilling, sometime pose modification, assembly it take me around 40 minute per marine and i still have base and painting to do.
but if i don't do all that especially clean the mold line thoroughly i know they will pop out when painted and i will hate it.
I usually spend more time preparing a model than painting it.

This is the modification I will make for every bolt pistol in my army to make them look more menacing, because the standard rogue trader pistol kinda look like a pea shooter.
Hi i'm bolt pistol pew pew
these are the tool i use for this operation.
first we have to cut the front of the pistol. I use the hobby knife, we have to make sure the blade is sharp to make a clean cut, otherwise it will bend the plastic. Once the front is cut i use the file to make sure it's clean and sharp.
To make some diversity, I also modifies a shoulder weapon arms to put a pistol on it.
Then I have to drill the front of the pistol.
After that, I use this saw and the miter box to cut the barrel Straight. These are really precious tool for everyone that like to make modification or scratch build stuff.
Then I just have to put the new cut barrel into the gun.
This is the base for all my pistol but, I wont stop there because it look silly. I must make modification on all them like silencer, rail for optic or under-barrel upgrade like fore grip, flash light etc... to make them look good. Like this one:
A last modification I made was to use a left arms to hold a weapon.
First I have to cut the thumb clean. then use the file to level the top of the hand. Don't throw away the thumb
After I just glue the thumb on the inside of the hand if done well I don't need to use green stuff.
I can use this hand for a pistol or a rifle.
And this is it.
Now i just need to add the upgrades and accessories .
hope you like this, comment or question are welcome.

This is a land speeder i will use for my howling griffons. I have taken out the angel statue on the front, i try to keep the bling to a minimum. I may put more stowage on it, I'm also thinking about changing the head of both marine for beakies to keep a standard in the army not sure about it because its a tricky job.
What do you guys think?

Today updates :devastator sarge.
First of all i wanted it to have a Signum. I use part of a imperial voxcaster and some bits i could find.
I also wanted a combi weapon but since the fore grip is pretty short and with the curved magazine there not much place to make something that look cool. so i decide to go the bullpup way. I use part of a modern bolt rifle to make the under-barrel weapon.I think it look pretty cool. I think i will make other marine with bullpup in the future.
Then i procced to make him a laser targeter eye and this is the final result
Him with the squad:
I think he will need more pouch maybe but i'm not sure. Anyway i think he look pretty badass!
hope you like it.

First predator is finished. I used some green stuff made tarp, 1/35 and 40k bits i had for the stowage. I made the antenna and the handle on the side of the turret using metal wire.
hope you like it!

It's been a while since i posted an updates, I was pretty busy. First of all i want to Thanks Fifty and SirDonlad, 2 member of this forum who send me the pieces i was missing. Thanks guy it was really helpful!
I'm still trying to find info on the Sigmar VI Insurgency. It seem like there is no information on this campaign other than the color of their camo. Maybe it's something that can be found in a old white dwarf i don't know.
