Hey all. I'm thinking of starting HH for my next army. I have always liked Chaos SM in 40k (specifically the Iron Warriors fluff). Before I start buying these expensive models I would like some input on the list I am thinking of using. Let me know what you think.
2000pts Iron Warriors Hammer of Olympia
Perturabo
Warsmith- Cataphractii Terminator Armor Paragon Blade
Tac Squad- 10 Marines Rhino
Tac Squad- 10 Marines Rhino
Support Squad- 1 Bolter, 4 Meltaguns Rhino
Support Squad- 1 Bolter, 4 Meltaguns Rhino
5 Cataphractii Terminators- 1 Powersword, 4 Thunder Hammers
Land Raider Phobos
Sicarian Battle Tank

At 2000 pts I don't recommend taking the Warmsith and Perturabo in the same list. Secondly your squads are way too small. There are a lot of things which flat out ignore the melta special rule so those two squads of five will get toasted without making much of a dent.
Iron Warriors have some insane buffs to long range shooting and this list doesn't make use of that. Instead of the Cataphracti with Thunder hammers, take Tyrant siege Termies. Same models, but with super powerful long range capabilities. Similarly I would drop the melta squads and go for a single squad of 10 iron havocs instead.
Now it's up to you if you keep Perturabo (personally I think Primarchs are a point sink in small games. If you drop him, then you can buy more fire power, maybe vindicators, medusas or basilisks? Or if you keep him, drop the Praetor, take either a master of signal for the +1 BS in either the siege Tyrants or Havocs OR take a Siege Breaker consul to give tank hunter to either of those two squads.
Now if you want to keep the theme of the list and still want to do an "up close and personal" force, (still fluffy although you'll lose your IW buffs) keep the Cataphracti but definitely drop the melta squads and try and fit a vindicator in there instead. Something to get up in your opponents face with.
The main fault of the current list is there is really only 2 units that can cause any real damage (the sicaran and the termie/Pert/Phobos combo. If the Phobos gets immobilised then that unit loses a lot of threat, and one weapon destroyed roll and there goes your Sicaran. The 10 man tacs are just going to be grabbing objectives because they won't stand up in straight fights to 20 man tac squads (which you have little long range support to soften up) and those Support squads have very little durability and not enough fire power to take down big threats like Spartans, Leviathans or Aircraft.
My DG list isn't optimal but turn one I would pop those rhinos, then just one round of shooting from a 20 man tac squad would erase those support squads, then I would just ignore your Phobos/Cata/Pert deathstar and pick off your other units at my leisure.
I hope that's helpful and not too critical. Remember, MSU is much less effective in 30k than in 40k.

Keep in mind that while you can fit perty in that force for the 25% rule for LOW, if you are going to use hammer or olympia you need to take a minimum of three troops choices so you are going to run low on points.
My recomendation on unit choices would be to get some iron havocs and some tyrant siege termies in that list and if you are dead set on taking perty dont take a warsmith just take a siege breaker consul to give a unit tank hunter, i would reccomend the tyrants.
forget any support squads with iron warriors unless you are going for like 10 plasma guys who get to rapid fire and assault.
Mainly just get artillery if you can as your going to need to hold a static gunline in your deployment zone.

I would ditch Perty and the warsmith and bring either Golg or Khyr. They buff your army a bit better in their own ways.
Support squads have all five guys with the same weapons including the sgt although you have the option of swapping out the special weapon for a combi-weapon.
Put a Vexilla with each tac squad, its not as important in IW as other legions but its still good to have, and melta bombs and AA on the sgts. In fact in your case I would put melta bombs on every sgt in the army that can take them as your list stands now. Great insurance for when a contemptor drop pods in next to you and its only 5 points.
With the points saved from perty, grab yourself some Havoks with missiles or Tyrants. Both are easy to get from the BoC set and pick up some Anvil Industry cyclone launchers which I think were made intentionally for Tyrants. The havoks will definitely appreciate a fortification and ammo dump from Kyr.
If you still have points left and you went the Tyrant route, get a siege Breaker and attach him for tank hunter goodness for their 10 krak missiles a round.
Hammer of Oympia is kind of a meh RoW. I would either go no RoW or go with PoL and find a way to get another vet or term squad. The extra troop tax for Hammer isn't really worth it and you aren't using the benefits from it anyway.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM! |

I love my Iron warriors but i generally wouldnt use the legions ROW's in anything under 2500 and i deffinetly wouldnt have perty in any points list lower than that.
To be honest you arent using the row anyway, the two main points for hammer of olympia are rapid fire+assault and having 4 heavy slots.
