Hi Dakka,

Just as a disclaimer this list is for a friendly game hence why I'm taking the units I am and the factions I am..

The idea for this list was to have a scary unit in a scary transport that can do a lot of damage and can handle the majority of threats that face them..

Combined Arms Detachment: Black Templars Tactics:

HQ

Chaplain: 105pts
- Digital Weapons
- Melta Bombs

Emperor's Champion: 140pts

Troops

Crusader Squad: 230pts
- Plasma Cannon
- Plasma Gun
- Sword Brother with Power Sword

Rhino - 35pts

Crusader Squad: 235pts
- Lascannon
- Plasmagun
- Sword Brother with Maul

Rhino - 35pts

Crusader Squad: 105pts
- Lascannon
- Gravgun

Elites

Vanguard Veterans: 250pts
- Axe & Storm Shield (Sergeant)
- 1 x Thunder Hammer
- 2 x Power Swords
- 1 x Power Axe
- 1 x Storm Shield

Fast Attack

Assault Squad: 190pts
- Lightning Claw (Sergeant)
- Flamer
- Jump Packs

Land Speeder: 45pts

Stormtalon Gunship: 130pts
- Typhoon Rocket Launcher

Heavy Support

Land Raider Crusader: 260pts
- Multi-Melta

Allied Detachment: Blood Angels

HQ

Sanguinary Priest: 75pts
- Power Weapon

Troops

Tactical Squad: 85pts
- Missile Launcher

The plan is to basically stick all the characters from both detachments into the vanguard vet squad and put them all in a land raider.. the priest gives them all feel no pain, the chaplain is there for re-rolls and the emperors champion is there for the challenges, the squads in rhinos are for driving up alongside and capturing objectives in the centre of the board and the two smaller squads are for camping at the back of deployment holding objectives.. assault squad for potential linebreaker given the other targets on the board they should be least liable to be shot at.. same goes for the land speeder.. storm talon in case my opponent brings flyers.. plus it looks cool..

question for you at the end of the list... can I actually attach the Priest to the squad? I know it may seem a stupid question but this is my first time using a list similar to this.. I know they are battle brothers but just wanting to be sure so I don't do anything wrong!

I understand this list may not be the most competetive list you will see today but it is for a fun game and I wanted to try the Vanguard with all the buffs I guess!

Comments welcome!

At my desk

Well, as a fun list this looks, well, fun. I don't know anything about Black Templars, but after a quick poke about on 1d4chan your Crusader squads look viable (I personally wouldn't run them that way but I don't know much about them so that's how much my opinion counts for anything).
Storm Talon is easy anti-air, so you've got most lists with a flyer covered.
A single Lightning Claw on the Assault Sergeant? I'd take a power weapon to get the extra attack on the charge but Shred will be better against some foes so I won't knock it.
Land Speeder will be ignored by most players, so it's a nice little support unit (but don't expect it to do too much)
Right, now your Crusader full of blenders is... interesting. I'll lay it straight that any competitively optimised deathstar will kick it's teeth in. But it'll certainly do well in casual play. I really like the Crusader as a transport for big assault units so points to you there. Now I personally don't use Vanguards that much but when they've got the trousers buffed off them I think it'll do well as an AP3 murder machine.

Long story short, I think this list will do well in a casual environment and will be good fun while it's doing so.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

Thanks for the response! I was thinking about re-working the different Crusaders squads that I was using as a firebase to something a little different.. the power weapon's etc seem a bit like wasted points.

The one lightning claw is due that being the way the model is modelled.. I may change it out though to get more attacks..

I was thinking of using honour guard in the Crusader but the unit was EXTREMELY expensive but was survivable and all calculations pointed to death on the enemies part.. I'm thinking of re-thinking the entire list in the middle chunk.. hmmmmmmmm
