Hello all!
I have put aside my Space Wolves army, and decided to pick up Orks. After designing and building the Space Wolves accessories for my knight titan (Shown below) , I thought it would be a lot of fun to switch gears into orks, build up a decent army, and do some really heavy converting: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-e79EWrM82SU/VSRJnnRtD6I/AAAAAAAAGm4/pxfTx4HHL6A/s1600/16204457804_575d7bdbd9_k.jpg

I LOVE the idea of doing a walker-only army... Or at least a big portion as walkers. After reviewing the Imperial Armor 8 Dread mob, vs. the "newer" Ghaz supplement dread mob, I decided to go with the later, at least for now since I am starting from scratch, and the ghaz dread mob means I can make an 1850 point army with only 18 models on the table... From there I can branch out.

Now onto my question!

What do you guys kit your Kans with? How about your deff dreads? I am going from space wolves to orks, so I am still in the "3+ to hit" mind set. This scares me away from using big shootas or rokkits, because wont I be missing a lot?! My idea is to use grotzookas on ALL kans, that way its consistant all across the board ( I will have 9 kans in total)
For the Def dread, I like the idea of using 4 klaws on each of the 3 dreads, but what if they are imobilized? What if they get charged by a decent unit?! Skorchas? Rokkits?
I know a lot of people say this type of army is not competitive, but I am stubborn and just love the models. Once I build up a wholedread mob I am more than open to expanding into more competitive units.

Anyone use Dread mobs? Anyone use Kans or deffs? Or have any pointers? I have zero experience with these guys so even the most basic tactics would help!

Here is my list for 1839 points!
3x Deff Dreads (3x klaws, 1x scorcha, extra armor, grot riggers)

3x Kila kans (1x kan klaw, 1x Grozooka, extra armor, grot riggers)
3x Kila kans (1x kan klaw, 1x Grozooka, extra armor, grot riggers)
3x Kila kans (1x kan klaw, 1x Grozooka, extra armor, grot riggers)

2x Morkanaut (1x Kustom mega blasta, 1x Kustom mega kannon, Kustom Force Field, 2x rokkit launcha, 2x twin linked big shoota, 1x klaw of gork, extra armor, grot riggers)

1x pain boy
1x Big mek (Da fixa uppa, 'eavy armor)

1x Mek boy junka ( Kustom force field, Wreking ball, turbo charga, 3x shootas)

Anyhow here are some progress shots:

I went with a Dread Mob to Alamo GT and went 0-5. Was fun though. I changed up my list a lot after that. Here is what I am going to start running now. A lot of it has to do with deployment.

CAD

Big Mek
2×10 Grots
Big Mek Stompa - Deff Kannon

Dread Mob

Big Mek
Painboy
2x3 Killa Kans - Rokkits
3 Killa Kans - Big Shootaa
3x1 Deff Dreads - 1 w/ 2 Rokkits, 1 w/ 2 Big Shootas and 1 w/ 2 Kustom Megablastas
2 Morkanauts - 1 w/ KFF

I just stumbled upon your forum post a minute or two before you responded to mine haha. Good to hear you played with the list you outlined! Someone else asked this question on your thread but I dont think it was answered. Does the dread mob benefit from "Waaghs" called by the CAD?

I have a friend who runs a stompa and it is ALWAYS nasty without fail.

I always imagine the kans screening the deff dreads so they can get into CC with their 7 attacks... Does this ever happen? Do the dreads even make it that far?
How do you deal with enemies that climb up on things? you cant climb ruins in a walker correct?

That's not the list I ran at the GT. This is what I ran.

Ork CAD - 347 Points

Big Mek- Shock Attack Gun, 'eavy Armor - 89 Pts
10 Grots, Slaver- Squig Hound - 40 Pts
10 Grots, Slaver- Squig Hound - 40 Pts
2 Traktor Kannons- 4 extra Grots, 2 Ammo Runts- 78 Pts
Deff Dread- 2 Kustom Mega Blastas, Grot Riggers - 100 Pts

Dread Mob - 1500 Points

Big Mek- Mega Armor, 1 Grot Oiler- 80 Pts
Painboy- 50 Pts
3 Killa Kans- Rokkits- 150 Pts
3 Killa Kans- Grotzookas- 165 Pts
3 Killa Kans- Grotzookas- 165 Pts
Deff Dread- 1 Additional CCW, Skorcha- 95 Pts
Deff Dread- 1 Additional CCW, Skorcha- 95 Pts
Deff Dread- 2 Rokkits - 80 Pts
Morkanaut- Kustom Forcefield, Grot Riggers, Extra Armor - 310 Pts
Morkanaut- Kustom Forcefield, Grot Riggers, Extra Armor - 310 Pts

I struggled killing at range. The Grotzookas are amazing but too short of distance. Learned to keep my kans away from CC except vehicles. My CC Dreads did make it into CC, they were devastating but died to melta bombs and krak grenades. When the new FAQS drop they will be good. Yes they benefit from Waaagh, why having a CAD with a Warboss is worth it. Most target priority are your nauts unfortunately. They die very quick unless you have a lot of luck with KFFs. Extra armor is a must on the nauts the reason I'm not taking any in my updated list is no points left. I need the super heavy and stomps.
