I'm moving this month to the St. Petersburg area. Specifically I will be living in the downtown area. I noticed there are like 10 stores in the surrounding area. I am looking for a gaming group to get plugged in with. I'm pretty open to any game system, but lately I've been playing a lot of FFG and want to learn heroclix. Thanks!

I'll be moving to the north Tamps area in the next two months. I play 40k (marines, tau, eldar, nids), 30k, AoS, Star Wars armada, and some others.

I'm a local to Tampa bay, but I only just got into the hobby. Good news! Your moving into the sinkhole capital of the Americas! But otherwise its an okay place to live and there's plenty to do if you know where to look. Quick Tips: If you want to go to Disney's Animal Kingdom, go to Bush Gardens instead. Don't bother with Seaworld, its kind of subpar. Florida residents are not actually weirder than normal, but the state uses an "All government documents are free for public viewing upon request" law that allows reporters to get their hands on wacky police reports whenever they like. Most relevant to you: ALWAYS check the weather before priming/sealing your models. It's almost always too hot or too humid to properly prime/seal outdoors. Your best bet is a large garage in the evenings, because mornings are very wet.
I think there's a GW store on Bruce B Downs in Tampa where you'll find some games (I haven't been there before...yet), and if your into X-wing, Kings of War, Warmachine-Hordes, or any other third party title go to Armada Games. I used to go to Armada all the time and they are absolutely drowning in local support! I remember entering on a weekend for a hobby drill bit and seeing a game on every one of the 10-12 tables. X-wing, Warmahords, KoW are the big three there but you wont find much 40k support. You'll have to go to the GW store for that.
I suppose the only other thing you need to know is both stores are within recruiting range of the University of South Florida, so expect to meet a lot of college students.
Personally, I'm a Warhammer 40k guy with 500 points of IG that I'm trying to beef up to 1000 by August. So I'll see you here.

If you're going to live in Downtown St. Pete, then Critical Hit Games will be the one to look into:

I'm a little down the road in Largo and like the game store there, called Serenity Games. It's a much more casual enviroment:

And the regional facebook page for good measure:

Just moved to the area as well, downtown St. Pete to be specific. You'll find plenty of gamers in the area, and the local bars are fairly open to the "game and drink" concept for regular card/board games (Cards Against Humanity and such).
For tabletop, Critical Hit has plenty of space, and carries a decent selection of models from various systems. It's the only store I've had a chance to get out to so far. A little small, but decent customer base; several games were being played on a random Thursday afternoon. It's about 20 minutes from downtown.
Used to play quite a bit of 40k and WHFB, but haven't really touched anything in years; was in upstate NY, were the gaming scene doesn't exist. I've got enough models to field multiple armies at a time, so if you ever feel like a proper 40k/WHFB demo, I'd be happy to give you a rundown. There current offerings for gaming are less than stellar; just about any system is a better ruleset. However, they're older systems have some real gems in terms of rules and fun games to play (older editions, Necromunda, etc.).
Welcome to the area!
