Hello Dakka family,

I just bought myself a fourth tactical squad and I'm a bit indecisive on what to do with them.

I currently have a tact squad with P/CP and 2 squads with M/CM. No heavy weapons on any of them so far. I have one sgt modeled with a power fist but I don't think hes really viable w/ his point cost.

What would you guys do with my new squad, I was thinking an additional Plasma squad but Grav seems appealing.

Do any of you use Plasma Pistols at all? Can you explain your reasoning on why you use them

Tend to avoid plasma pistols as they don't do enough for their cost. Since you already have some plasma and meltas on your other squads, what about grav or flamers?

I don't think a plasma pistol is ever worth it. You only get the one shot, even if S7 SP2 is nice. 15 points is too much. If it were 5 or 10, maybe.

For the last tactical squad, I'm assuming 5-man squad, perhaps in a rhino or razorback.

A flamer combi-flamer might be useful, and is a cheap load out. You already have a pair of P/CP.

Edit: Grav would be fine, but more expensive than the Flamers.

What does the rest of your army look like, and how fixed are you for bits?

If you already have 3 tac squads, and are running 5 man minimal squads, you might consider putting them together as a 5 man assault squad on foot, with a pair of flamers. You’d have to dig up some spare BP/chainswords, but after 3 tac squads, you might have that kicking around. They can be a decent squad in a razor-spam company list. Or to fill a pod in drop lists. Useful bunch of guys to have on the shelf.

A flamer tac squad could be useful, and helps fill out the options. I’ve only fielded grav a couple times on tacs (due to not getting one assembled and painted for the longest time) but they do work well.

Plasma pistols are comically overpriced. Sad, really. But it’s what we have. I would not ever field them unless some strange fey mood takes me, or I want to knock the dust off some WYSWYG relic from the dark ages.

Thanks for the input guys! I guess I wont be using a plasma pistol anytime soon.

Currently my army consists of:
1 x Cerastus Knight Atrapos
2 x Sicaran ( 1 built one in the mail )
3 x Rhino/RZB
2 x Drop Pods

1 x Command Squad on Bikes with 4 Grav Guns

1 x Cataphractii Term Squad all with LC
1 x A. Terms with TH/SS

4 x Tact squads as explain above

1 x Assault Squad 2F, Powerfist on sgt
1 x Attack Bike w/ MM

1 x Comteptor Dreadnaught
1 x V. Dreadnaught
1 x Grav. Cents

And from all the input I guess I'll be making a on foot assault squad with 2x flamers and a 5 man tac with F / CF.
