The start of my Skitarii collection.

Maniple Detachment

Troops
10 Vanguards
- Plasma Caliver
10 Vanguards
- Plasma Caliver
10 Rangers
-Transuranic Arquebus, Omispex

Fast Attack
3 Dragoons
- 2 Phosphor Serpentas

Heavy Support
Onager Dunecrawler
- Icarus array

How should I expand this to the 1k-1250 range? There are 2 options I was considering A: Expand on the Skitarii, probably another dunecrawler and a unit of infiltrators or B: Start an allied Cult Mechanicus detachment. This would allow me to use the Dominus from the Start Collecting box, most likley in a Holy Requisitioner or Cohort Cybernetica formation. Thanks for any help, other ideas would be appreciated

He's been ferried through hell on a ship that's ten thousand years old to some godforsaken, war-torn rock; He is one of ten million men snatched from his home to fight a war he barely understands; He wages war against devouring hiveminds, ravenous demons and hordes of hyper-advanced aliens with strange technologies and sorceries he never dreamed existed; no one will remember his sacrifice, there will be no records of his deeds, no glorious parades in his honor, and no remembrance of his name. All he will earn is a shallow, unmarked grave on a forgotten world untold lightyears from home.

Yet for all this thankless sacrifice a Guardsman is a man, just like you. He has no millennia-old genetic engineering, no prophetic leader, no miracles of faith. He has his lasgun, his orders, and those beside him. He is the Imperial Guard.

And he will hold the line.

All you really need to ally in is the Dominus himself. If your trying to expand this I would say more Dune Crawlers and probably Sicarians.

Can I ally in the Dominus by himself or do I need him to be part of a Cult Mechanicus detachment?

The Dominus Maniple Formation is thus:

Techpriest Dominus
Skitarii Vanguard or Ranger Squad
1 Dunecrawler.

Ah totally forgot about that. What would you recommend as an Allied Battle Congregation? I'm hoping to be able to run a War Convocation at some point.

Ironstrider Cavaliers could be nice as an added formation.

Adding/expanding on the mechanicus part (since you want to go towards a war convocation) might be a nice one too.

Also adding more special/heavy weapons to your units would help also.

Infiltrators are also a very nice unit.

You've probably heard that the big War Convocation is the most competitive way to field Skitarii, so start building towards that if you're at all interested.

Dragoons are much better with tasers. Let the rest of your army handle the shooting.

Split vanguard into 5 model units with 2 special weapons. Don't take rangers outside of a War Convocation.

Yes the Start Collecting Dominus Maniple formation is not bad. Note that it can use either Vanguard or Rangers because GW printed two ways (lol) but you always want Vanguard.

The good Cult Mechanicus formations are Cohort Cybernetica and Elimination Maniple. Unfortunately grav destroyers and kastelan robots are the only awesome units in that book. But if you're building towards War Convocation, limit yourself to just six grav destroyer models.
